36' yesterday....some ice, but not too bad....no wind for a change....the usual, of late, mild left Achilles tightness....no biggie....a very small calf twitch near the end....taking to day off as a precaution.....hopeful for tomorrow....

Sunday; No run, but the Packers sure got this Cheeseheads heart pounding.
Monday; half a day on snowshoes. PM; Light 20 min. spin cycle.
TuesdayAM; 35 min spin cycle, heading for the Bush PM. Temps well below zero once again. Rodgers made the right call-- Disneyland. Daughter #1 suffered a rolled ankle in the postgame revelry downtown GB. She's not saying too much.
about 30' yesterday.....okay, maybe it was 29'.....sidewalks still messy and difficult to traverse.....stayed mostly on the side roads which were generally clear.....still some Achilles stiffness.....looking at Thursday as my next opportunity....
Tuesday PM; Spin trainer again. Watched Universal sports and ski racing for 35 mins.
Weds AM; Run for 63 mins with Colonel. Temps bottomed out at _-14F(-24C). Sunny but breezy, even in the woods. Headed down to the Rib River on the snowmo trail. Went up river for 10 mins. on the ice then doubled back home. Tufts of cottontail fur gave evidence to some predator's successful hunt.
Man, I'm missing the point could be. O2, Hang in there with the calves and Achilles.
Thursday AM; 60 minutes on the bike trainer. Thermometer read -30C(-23F) outside. This weather is getting tiresome.
Saturday;
Willow River State Park; 2 hours cruising on skinny skiis with the Bride and daughter #2. The deep cleft the river has carved through the St. Peters sandstone is a visual trip back through the eons. Viewed abundant geese and ducks in the rivers open water and a few deer using the hard packed trails to ease their travel burden. temps a cushy 30F.
~30' on Friday.....quite brisk with a tougher than usual headwind.....diverted from the water to put the wind at my back.....returned to the usual path today for 42'......still a headwind but decided to suck it up.....first time over 40' in a while......no probs......living the dream....
Rib Lake Trails;
With a major warmup in place temps rose to 46F from the -24F of Friday AM. Snow turned soft and sticky. The Bride and I went 2:08 before calling it a day.
If there's a worthwhile reason to learn how to run backwards on a track comfortably and safely, it is to see a line of 4-6 year olds run in lane 3, one behind the other, having a heck of a hard time resisting the temptation to burst into lane 2 and 4, and kick it in until they burst for air. Which inevitably happens with 100m to go.
Last Saturday, Kids Athletics, 2 x 400m after 1 hour of doing drills with colored cones on th grass.
Got some accounting to do re. The MOARG, but i'll get around to it.
25' yesterday.....kept it on the low side because it was the day after my first 40+' in some time.....and don't want to rush the back-to-backs.....speaking of backs, it's a little achy this am......day off today.....hopefully back at it on Wednesday....
If there's a worthwhile reason to read letsrun in general and this thread in particular it is to have the point could be back posting. Thankful for your return!
AM; Got out 10 minutes on the snowmobile trail, then ran smack into a dense cloud of low hanging smoke. Turns out the neighbors' barn was ablaze. Fortunately no cattle were lost. I retreated and cut for home.
Today, no run but did get up on the McIvor Range for an enjoyable 70 or so minutes of steep mountain biking. Not a lot of wildlife about but I did meet up with a very large feral sheep. Also popped the kyak in the lake and splashed my way through a solid 30 mins.
Yesterday, a slow 13km/70min trot around town in the evening, legs are a bit beat up. All the usual marsupial suspects out and about.
Monday, a slow 55 min trot inc a lap of the golf course (barefooted), legs feel a bit weary.
The weekend. We had travelled down to South Gippsland on friday night-4hrs of travelling.
Saturday morning, up early at our campground (Shallow Inlet). Jogged down to a nice trail along the beach, spooking a wallaby at the c/ground fence. Ran through the bush for a time then up the 3.7k dirt road to the highway and back then finished with some soft sand running -55mins.
The bride and I drove the 30k to the beautiful Wilsons Promontary N.P. later in the morning.
We took ourselves off on a lovely hike across from Tidal River (crowded) to Little Oberon Bay, a beautiful secluded beach of white sand and massive boulders, we had the whole beach to ourselves apart from some curious gulls.
Spotted numerous varieties of reptiles inc one cute little copper coloured snake.
After a quick bite we drove off to a place called Squeaky Beach, yes the sand does squeak under foot. We then hiked the km of white sand beach then 2.5 hilly kms back to Tidal River. A quick soak of the legs in the tannin stained river then I ran back to the car leaving the bride to relax by the water.
Sunday. The bride dropped me off at the bottom of Mt Oberon (550m asl). She headed in for some relaxation at Tidal River while I took to the hill, 2.5km of steady bitumen climb then 3kms of smooth dirt track climb to the old telegraph station, 400 metres or so of rocky steps up to the reach the summit in 40 mins
5 minutes up top taking in one of the most spectacular views in the state.
Back down, I clipped off the 3kms of dirt in under 12 mins, getting some strange looks from the various hikers on their way up. I jogged down the bitumen and then another km to Tidal River to meet the bride. 72mins of running (plus a 5min stop).
We stopped for a 6km hike on a loop in the thickly forested interior before heading for home.
mopak;
it occurs to me that you would do exquisitely well as a tour guide or travel consultant. Your post always pique my curiosity and generate a strong desire to visit the land down under.
AM; Took the snowmobile trail east and down to the Rib River. The snow is covered with soot from yesterdays adjacent barn fire (1 mile upwind).
3 grouse;4 crows; myself and 2 too tired Border collies enroute to 63 mins. on this relatively balmy 0C morning.
Thurs. AM; At 38F and foggy, the world seemed small. My heart was heavy with the news of a friends passing on Monday. Wayne went from hale and hearty 7 weeks ago, to gone from this world. What a guy. Retired from teaching , but still kept coaching and helping kids ski. Carried a huge smile with him every where. Long may you ski Wayne, Long may you Ski.
Took to the trail for 3 miles for with Colonel. Then spent a good day on snowshoes.
42' on back-to-back days.....couldn't pass up the (near) spring-like weather....happy to report no issues after two of my longest days in a while....the schedule will force days off for the next two.....may shoot for 45' on Sunday??....I'll let you know...
Rib Lake Ski Trails; 23k classic X-C race;4;30/k pace for 1:43. Refrozen snow was hard and rocket fast. Cooled down with a 2 mile run on the hard packed hilly trails.
the Bride bailed at 20k after taking a fierce digger.
Temps in the upper teens. Sunny and calm.
This years race was dedicated to long time contestant, Wayne F., who we lost to an aggressive disease last Monday.
43' yesterday.....almost stayed in....tough wind chill....but I survived....day off today due to snow....we'll see what tomorrow brings.....
Sunday; 15 min. on the bike trainer; just enough to break a seat.
Monday; Bushed, sore hip from one of the falls on Sat. Donated blood last week and that usually drags me down for a few days too. Rest day as a result. (Unless snow shoveling counts for cross training.) 12-14' of new heavy white stuff was deposited locally.
Tuesday PM; Biketrainer for 35:30. Mixed it up incorporating cadence work and some 3 minutes out of the seat top end.
Rib Lake Trails;
Classic style X-C skiing. 2;09 at moderate and greater intensity. Snow was soft despite being rolled and rilled.
Temps in the upper 20's, calm and overcast. Encountered 5 other skiers and 1 skijorer.
