AM; Heritage Run. Dropped the pickup off in town and ran the 7 miles home. The streets and roadways were a bevy of activity as local denizens took on the task of clearing off the 4" of heavy new snow we received last night. temp was a moderate and relatively pleasant -2C. No wind to speak of.
PM; Got to find a restaurant to observe our 25th Anniversary. Solstice, Full Moon, and Total lunar eclipse in the wee hours. This should be good.

more cold, went to the gym, machines, mills, stretch, swim, steam, feeling rejuvenated.
tpcb; Shoes; running in snow/ice Inov-8 Mudclaws with the carbide dobs. (try before you buy, these are best suited for long narrow feet).
Apparel; too often my contrarian side comes into play here.
For biking I wear ski clothes. For skiing I wear bike jerseys and Campy jackets. Running involves a weird admixture of whatever comes falling out of the closet. Gypsies have nothing on this OCD farm kid.
Temp wise I'd rather not sweat too much. 1 layer down@ 0C. 2 layers down to 12-15 F. Add a vest or shell for windy or close to 0F conditions. Colder than that, I start making excuses for staying inside.
yesterday; 5 hours of wood cutting. Enter a cozy house, add a warm meal and I went comatose. No run/ski.
Today's workout, Yet to be determined.

PM; 20 minute run on the snowmobile trail. Footing was cushy and slow. Inov-8 Mudclaws were the shoe of choice, and the older Border Collie my nocturnal companion.
Left the car on the outskirts of Bendigo and ran an hour along the railtrail into work, finished with 3x100m barefoot strides on the grass.
A 10pm Christmas eve trot back to the car (45mins).
Did much the same yesterday except came back via the railtrail for a 55min return run.
Wednesday,40mins steady paddling in the kyak. 86mins of easy running up/down/up/down on the McIvor Range, 2 x 160m elevation gains.
Tuesday, 86mins running through the Argyle forests, and a 50min ride through the same area.
Monday, a leisurely 78min run through the Argyle forests.

7 AM tour of the St. Norberts College campus and adjoining residential areas.
Plenty of wild fowl taking refuge in the open water below the Hwy.57 bridge and dam. Mallards, Canada Geese, and a few Pelicans sharing the foodstuffs they glean from the turbulent waters.
30 minutes afoot, the streets are quiet this early Christmas morn.

Xmas came and is now leaving, for a week of summing up and forecasting...Festivities winding down here. It was all family time, raining and miserable outside, no running, very warm and cheery inside, some exercising.
Sleeping, eating, playing Santa Claus with relatives and their little one coming from afar (xmas eve dinner sat 30), seeing the new generations oncoming, between a cpoem and and some singing interludes. Thinking of snow can be so warm.
It feels good to be here.
Rare hours of sunshine in NorCal lately, which suffices for my Christmas morning gift.
90 minutes, 13.3 miles solo. Grateful to be running healthy.
A nice leisurely 100 minute run through the forests before work. A 50 min kyak after work.

then went to the movies. had to park 1k out so ran back from parking lot to box office. at a clip too.

AM: 25 min. Spin trainer. Embedded tabata.
PM: 30 minutes Spin trainer.
Spent the majority of the day playing cards, and cheering on the Packers at a Family Christmas gathering. Took in a weeks worth of calories in 6 hours.
Took off for a relaxed 90 min run through the forests, 90 mins later was still 20mins from home, walk 1min/jog 1min. for the last 4k. That'll teach me for going up some unfamiliar trails.
Weather is quite cool here for Dec, about 16 deg C. (low/mid 60s F). The usual suspects out in the forest, roos and wallabies. Also spotted a huge bearded dragon. Noticing more eastern rosellas about. The crimson rosella is the most common of all our local birds, it's eastern cousin is far less common. Perhaps the cooler damper conditions have seen their numbers boosted.
Both are beautiful creatures.
I did my normal 6 mile run this morning. The temp was 7 F,we had some ice fog over night so the trees were covered with frost. As I got on the bridge deck going west over the ford bridge the sun was just hitting the west side of the river. The trees were silver. Just another beautiful winter run.
30' on the 'mill yesterday.....28' of slow running and 2' walking to finish up......Santa brought a pair of calf sleeves and yesterday was my first time running with them on.....so far, so good, but still being cautious.....time will tell.....happy new year to all....

Got some severe leg cramps again after supper. Something in my electrolyte profile is amiss.
Today,AM; 2 hours on the X-C skiis. Fartlek style workout in terms of intensity. Concentrated on form and double poling.
Haunted by more post workout cramps.
The company was good and the scenery excellent. Timms Hill spur of the Ice Age Trail. Moderate temps in the high 20'sF.(-1C.) Sunny and calm.
Heel striking myself to insanity in ski boots in Valdagno di Vicenza, hence no running, for the blast two days. Three days ago, it was a travel day, so also no running. All this will change on 1/1/11.
Incredibly sunny skies, temps hovering around 0 C, no wind, packed snow, at 1000m asl with family and friends. kids (and miraculously the Bride) enjoying some alpine for a change.

Rest Day;
three days in the company of my farm partner/mentor and it was time for a breather. Great guy, but his triple A ambition wears me out. Nonstop talker as well. Whew.
Temps. rose to 38F and we had drizzle all day. Trails all got soft and the roads are slushy.

30+' off the 'mill yesterday.....wore both calf sleeves.....kept it slow and short....no problems during the run.....right calf slightly tight a few hours later......wearing the calf sleeve on the right today.....hopefully will get in a weekend run.....happy new year, dyrt-ers....

Bride and I started checking out some travel plans and activity this AM.
Last night. Drizzle and 0c temps left all surfaces coated in ice. Opted for 32 minutes on the spin trainer.
Cold front moved in dyring the wee hours and temps plummeted to 6F(-14C).
Happy New Year from the land of hockey pucks and cow trucks.
weather much better here, B-man.....50+ F, sunny, and windless.....couldn't pass it up.....cranked out another 30' with both calves sleeved.....right one still had a smidge of tightness, but it did not get worse.....a good start to the new year.....maybe this will be an injury free year :).....hoping for the best for all of you with the new year....
