two days ago it was The Science museum to back in touchnwith Leonardo's genius and a visit on the Toti submarine which was quite a eyeful for adults as well...talk a about going minimalist...one small toilet for 25 seamen.. not to speak of sleeping over a siluro...
monday it was turin, lots and lots of walking...

ABR trails @ Ironwood. 3.5 hours on skinny skiis. The 4 of us floated over new fallen snow along the banks of the Montreal River. Hats off to the grooming crew and Proprietors.
Eric and Angela, you've embellished what was already a winter wonderland. Your hospitality is much appreciated.

Knocked off early today to put in a few miles before sunset. My legs were still zapped from yesterdays ski outing. 3.4 miles in 38 min. I had to walk for almost a 1/2 mile to regroup after a long hill.
Clear skies and a bright sliver of moon lit the way. Calm and cool at 17F.

More and more walking in and out with family at Natural History Museum. Then they left to go back to Rome. Will rejoin them Friday.
After a very rainy loooong weekend, sunny skies and crisp air are back over Milan for an easy restart.
Bushman, re visiting cities, it is easier than it seems. Turin and Milan are only an hour away by fast train. Rome Milan only three. Haven't been to Vienna, Venice nor Treviso recently but even with a small will, they are easy to reach.
The MOARG should obviously take advantage of the centrality of Switzerland to include as much touring as possible.

It's remarkable to think of the true duration of the MOARG countdown. The intricacy of keeping track through the lows and highs of this thread can justly be considered a feat of endurance in it's own right. Thumbs up tpcb!!
The web of work will necessitate our travels fall somewhat later than 74 days designated. But certainly the planning must begin. Currently a late July slot appears most amenable to making our jaunt to Gimmelwald.
Our local Forecast calls for a foot of snow within the next 24 hours.
The need to travel to distant locales for X-C skiing is about to be blanketed, with out the backdoor availabilty.

kids athletics at paolo rosi track.
stinging cold by local standards. still the track was teeming. plastic cones were the item of the day. used them for balance, throwing and running drills.
found out that a former colleague and instructor BetsyT is back to train to compete. she's got little onez first and then she trains. really glad and inspired.

when the countdown started i think the idea with mopak at the time (and this gentleman and nordic marathoner driske) was for 0 to coincide with the time to begin planning. so if we proceed as such, feb 2011, should make it feasible to plan for july.

That clarification puts my mind at ease. I do trust some of the former thread regulars will show up. gonzo is the fellow I most wish would surface again. What a reverence for burpees!! The choice occasional rant he delivered was always spot on.
AM: 1mile shuffle through 6" of new snow, did chores and ran the same route home. Now at 8" depth.The neighbor on the corner stopped his snow removal efforts to give me his best "You are *#%k(7^!! nuts" stare. LOL, the guy is 5"9" and pushing 250, less than svelte, pounds. Each to his own. Probably somebody like him will be playing the accordion at MOARG.

1hr ice skating with the kids at the Auditorium's xmas on ice mini rink. As satisfying as raking-in the miles is, i treasure the ability to spend a healthy hour of any physical activity with my children growing up. Plus i think ice-skating is actually great x-training and good forefoot pushoff drill. Gentle but focussed.

Our world halted to clean up the 15" offresh snow deposited hereabouts.
My day consisted of much shoveling and tractor time. Waddling around like a duck dressed in 15#'s of winter clothes seems to be a workout in itself. Carhart's forever.

Travel day. Up at 0430, lots of walking with usual luggage. Feel bushed already.
Skating; gentle but focused. What a joyous expression of physicality. What a spectrum. From Hockey's brutal war on ice, to the exquisite nuances of couple's comp at the world level.
Yesterday; Too much time spent postholing through snow drifts to find the energy to run later. Had some huge "charley horse" cramps later in the day. Must be from the unusual range of motion.

nothing in particular. went for dinner at friends via subway. it was so cold and foggy in the outskirts of Milan, that i just never stopped moving on the way there and back.

went to the gym and did some machines, mills and swim, steam room, stretch.
Local ski trails are in good early winter condition. The Bride and I covered 10K in the Nine Mile forest. Temp. 14F with a light SW breeze. That describes the physical parameters of the outing. Putting into words the exhilaration of being in a set of fast tracks, that is a greater challenge.

Saturday AM; 3 mile run with the 2 dogs as company. Got up close to a roosting Bald Eagle, which then took wing when we were directly underneath it. The collies were thrilled and took futile pursuit on foot.
PM; Back to Nine mile for about 11K on X-C skiis. Temps hovered around -10C all day.
The nature of your weather sounds similar to what hit us here in the midwest last weekend. Large areas received a winter's worth of snow in 24 hours. Interstate highways closed, and beyond a 1,000 airline flights cancelled.
As a child I found such storms a welcome reprieve from normalcy. As an adult, the disruption and the additional work involved to just function, are a real drain.

definitely a crispy day.
adult races broke the ice (literally on the course) and we had a third and fith place in the senior men by BorisB and UgoG. The pair are awesome. Women were less stellar, but very enthusiastic nonetheless. Kids were spectacular and already burned out during warmup as they were so eager to run, lol. The 2005s smurfs, really enjoyed trying to avoid the mud and played follow the green grass...
I ran a whole bunch setting up and taking photos from 0830 to 1230. And am now totally drained.Party with sparkling wine and panettone at the end, exchange of xmas greetings.
A great, cold, day.
PM; The full moon was inviting but -6F temps prompted a spin trainer session rather than a run. 25 mins. of spinning followed with 15 min. of situps, pushups, toe raisers, and general stretching.
The Bride's Christmas Concert went off very well today, and that was good. But then comes the relentless roller coaster that spares no one. We buried one of our 57YO neighbors yesterday, and learned a young couple in town lost their 2 YO son today. In our village of 1,000 souls these events touch everyone.
