What part didn't you understand? He lies because that's what he does? No, he lies for a reason and it was explained to you but you are just trying to be different.
Dukerdog is not going to admit to any wrong. I've been here long enough to read many of his posts...condescending dribble over and over. To give credit to another poster is not in his realm of thought.

As somebody who only recently learned of the Kip Litton saga, I found the article well written and entertaining.
The article certainly leaves the impression that Mr. Litton is undoubtedly a cheat and is responsible for most if not all of the letters/posts/statements in his defense.
He comes off as a delusional attention seeker with too much free time on his hands. Letsrun as a bunch of clever and tenacious if somewhat overzealous truth seekers.
In essence, it's an interesting character piece with a touch of mystery (how did he never get caught).

Good points, it occurred to me after reading the article that probably a third of the posts in the last 100 pages of this thread are Litton in his various aliases. This together with the repeated failure to end all this by coming clean suggests that he in some way enjoys this. Those who continue to obsess about wanting to know every detail about how he did it (and aren't Litton) may wish to reflect that they are playing into his hands. It is also very strange that some people appear to want the author of the article to invent new stuff just to interest them, the only new stuff can come from Litton.

I am seeing things or can someone comment on the pictures I dug up today of Kip's 2009 Manchester NH Marathon run. Could Kip running the 1/2 as a female? Does he have a sister? Runner 1345 does the Kip thing real well and appears to wear the same glasses and runs with the same expression, but is listed as a female who finished the half, while Kip suppposedly finished the full marathon. I've been following this for a while... The one thing that makes no sense to me is why Kip changes clothes? - If he was really trying to fly under the radar and had a stunt double or something, surely he could afford two identical hats, shirts etc. It just doesn't make any sense.

Yes - I see it now. Go through the whole process of flying around the country to fake race performances and then come up with the elaborate disguise of hats with different logos so you can claim it was someone else. That makes a lot of sense, thanks for pointing that out.

Found the story in the NewYorker and it led me to this thread. WOW! Never realized that many people were confused over how this guy could have cheated in Boston.
Why he went out of town? Well, the article said he's a dentist, so he's got money. If you raced local and cheated, you would be found out soon enough (as he apparently was in Michigan at a few races). When you go out of town/state, no one knows who you are and you will get away with it longer.
I live in the Boston area and those who say you can't cheat don't have a clue so please let me explain.
You could easily get to checkpoints with a car, but definitely a bike. You get off and act like you are walking along the course looking both back and down while crossing the pads. No one is going to question you as with no number exposed, you look like a bandit and there are tons of them.
Also no one is going to assume that you set off the pad because again there are dozens of runners going by and again, you have NO number exposed.
You then you walk off, go to your bike and through the side streets. How do I know that no one will question you? Because I did the same thing and no one questioned me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I had a number on, I could have easily ran from 20 on and then discarded my jacket as if I had it on the whole way. Simple.
How do I know this factually? I did it in 06' going from point to point to cheer on a friend who was shooting for a sub 2:50 (got there with a 2:54). I was also smart enough to use an older bike just in case but I didn't lock it to a tree, just leaned it.
I made it to every checkpoint and could have dumped the bike by the Prudential or the Reservoir off of Commonwealth and ran with him the rest of the way. The only hard part would be the last 2 miles or so, but even then at that pace, it would not be impossible.
After reading through just some of this thread I have to say "I see dumb people". Really, it's not that complicated and not worth giving him credit as if he's a magician. He cheated and I could have easily done it in 06' and I'm not a magician and never played one on television.
THAT'S HOW HE DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and how did I see my friend close to every checkpoint, as I know many of you are wondering?
Number 1, he stayed on the right side of the road to make it easy on me.
Number 2, he wore a BRIGHT orange shirt (not singlet)
Number 3, he runs very even and I knew the time within 1-2 minutes (written down on paper) of when he'd run by every checkpoint.
Number 4, After about 3 checkpoints you start to see familiar faces who preceded him and then look down the road and bam, there was a bright orange shirt headed my way.
Number 5, it worked!
Lastly, I read a post or two that said how hectic it is and that there was no way someone could get around on a bike for the marathon. That is just plain wrong. Even if you weren't from here, you could get a map and figure out the quickest route to your next stop, not too difficult.
Believe me or not, that's what I did and "anyone" could have done the same thing as I was not the only one on a bike going from point to point.

You glossed over the reason he went out of state on pg 42 of the story: 'his goal of running sub-three-hour marathons in all 50 states.' Near as can be discerned, Dr Litton's last 'race' in MI was the Crim 10 mile in '09 - where he said he left the course after 5 miles due to injury, made his way over to the finishing straight and, for reasons known only to him, raced down the final stretch & crossed the finish in 56+ minutes - a time he's incapable of. Race results the next day showed him with the 56+ time - somebody protested the time - Kip was contacted and he asked that his time be removed, providing the explanation above and, 'I got caught up in the excitement of the occasion', to explain why he crossed the finish. Meanwhile, the 56+ time might still be on athlinks.
Nine weeks later, he shortcut his 6+ mile leg of of a marathon relay in Detroit. His teammates remain pissed w/the guy. The previous year, he ran under the alias Rich Rodriguez and shortcut the Brooksie Way half marathon - the runner shown to finish behind him not recalling Kip ever being in front of him. These are examples of his cheating not in TNY story.
