Guys, it’s time to stop making fun of Coach Chunko. He was so embarrassed by the Ole race performances and constant ops on this thread that I saw him attempt to run after the meet yesterday. He had to be running 10:30 pace and I watched him stop and walk after running for two minutes but it was certainly an attempt at learning about our sport. Oles, tell him if he continues running he may become less of a chunko.
Good for him for running. It will only make it easier for him to tell people they aren’t fast enough for his roster if he looks like he has run before. And like you said, maybe he’ll learn something about the sport in the process.

He was too lazy to go to California this year and instead runs All-Americans in 15 mph winds. He doesn’t race his full team until the middle of April. And most of his squad is nowhere near times from last year. He talks a big game about competing at the national level and you see the La Crosses, Lynchburg’s, and even Centrals of the world backing it up by going to big meets like Bryan Clay and Boston. Meanwhile he barely leaves Northfield and the team is nowhere as good as they are in cross country. I’ll repeat what others have said, the Oles deserve better coaching. Earlier in the year people congratulated Augsburg on not going to big meets and just trying to qualify locally. Now they're hating on Power, now known as Coach Chunko, for doing the same thing. It's all kind of hilarious. I will note that the women's coach only ran her young 10kers at La Crosse and plans to run the rest at Drake. And, I will point out that the future coach of Ole men's cross country is much more likely to be Erica to save money than Jamie Kirkpatrick or Paul Thornton. It's no secret the admin wants to combine the programs to save money and combine resources. As others have said, due to the amount of emails the president and AD have received concerning Coach Chunko's conduct and the expected 5th place finish outdoor, changes will be made. I'd think one of the assistants will be offered a small salary increase to be head coach of both track teams or they bring Connor O'Neill back to do both. Otherwise, look for every MIAC assistant and several head coaches to apply for the track job.

Hearing that after Coach Chunko stupidly wasted his XC All-Americans’ attempt at a 10K qualifier in a mid field with 20 mph wind gusts he is now shopping for pacers to run absurd paces only Bati can run at Hamline. So maybe Bati will surface and Chunko will have helped him qualify again. Or maybe Gabe gives it a go again. He’s definitely capable of 14:07.
Or maybe we’ll all be laughing at Coach Chunko again and the Oles will scramble for the transfer portal.

I thought everyone had a very fun day of racing yesterday in northfield. Watching all those heats of dudes duking it out in the 15 and 8 was a blast. good vibes all around
Look at the top two results from that exact same day two years ago and everyone (especially the Tommies) were hating on Power wanting a pacer to run 8:30 for 3K.

3 MIAC 4 x 800’s going to Drake. Can the Johnnies threaten the MIAC record? Looking forward to the battle between Bethel and the Oles. Chunky never runs an A sums at conference so this might be the first sub 7:50 group we’ve seen in a while.
Looks like 420 addled everyone's brain on this thread as per usual.
Power was seen at Carleton relays flexing his unreal sprinter strength after the 100 hurdles by carrying three (3) whole hurdles off the track while Carleton's sissy distance runners could barely manage two. This will almost certainly play a role in the future of the conference in some way.

To be fair, at one point Coach Chunko was a pretty bad middle distance runner that barely broke 2:00. I’ve noticed a lot of coaches tend to move hurdles at away meets. Moving three is a weird flex, but we’ve all addressed his quirks ad nauseam on this thread.

Sub 2 at the DIII level in the 80's would usually qualify for a conference meet, so that's not the most terrible performance.

when an absolutely garbage mac, johnnie, gustie, etc. runs 2:05 or some other trivial high school type performance: applause, so good, oles suck, podium material

But on to more important things. The 200 at the U of M is loaded. Baby Ihrke and Tyler Smith will race the kinda D1’s from St. Thomas, and Stencil will assert dominance over Hartney & Boone.
Meanwhile Gabe will let McKee lead the Mac 5000 for ten laps before dropping a 2:10 to close.

The MIAC record is probably out of reach for the Johnnies, but they certainly can run 7:36-7:38. The record was actually set at conference and the Oles barely held off Carleton. Those performances were top 3 in D3 history at the time, pre-super shoes. It was really fun day at Hamline.
