50.63 is insane. What in the world. Centro’s last 400 at Rio was I believe 50.62; granted the last 700 there was insane, but still - 50.63 in a ~3:35 race, jogging all the way in?? Insane
Split was apparently more like 52 - WA page had it wrong. Pretty wild, but not quite as shocking.
I know we complain about race coverage constantly but this honestly may be the worst coverage I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I’ve been able to watch for more than 30s without a cut to commercial or interview.

Well he’s wrong but not crazy wrong in that you do generally positive split a bit. I think all my sub 2s had 56-58 first laps. Admittedly I am not anything special!
I think for someone like Anna, who has a 2:02 to her name and knew no one was going to follow her in an event where you don’t get a bonus for a W, time is all that matters, she should have paced a bit more even but her head was in the right place. She should have gotten out in maybe 30, pushed hard from 200-600 and then held on. Instead she pushed hard from 0-600 and held on, can’t hold it against her under the circumstances.
