Nice to know I have been missed.
I have been on night shift the last couple of weeks and my wife has been away on a clinical placement. Opportunities to post have been limited.
A catch up for the last week.
Thursday. I had to stay in Bendigo after work for 90mins as I needed to buy some new tubes and a tyre for the mtb. Was very tired by the time I arrived home, 28hrs since I woke up. Had a nice 4hrs sleep then out the door for a 100min run up on the McIvor Range. Feeling strangely good and just seemed to be rolling along effortlessly despite having accumulated 400 plus metres of elevation gain during the run. Finished with 4x100m strides.
Friday. Out on the lake in the kyak for 70 mins. This included a hard set of 3min reps with 1min recovery. Quite windy and choppy.
Saturday. A good tough 2hr mtb ride mostly up on the McIvor Range. I also added in some rough track beside Mt Ida. This spot always seems to be a place for goannas and sure enough one dashed across in front of me and then up the trunk of an ironbark. A nice big fella as long as I am tall.
Sunday. 2hr run up on the paddocks of the McHarg Range. This is a great place to run. I'm always reminded of Jack Foster running across the hilly paddocks of Rotorua.
Steep takes on a new meaning here. Because it is farmland each climb presents fabulous views. Apart from the first and last km every bit of the run is steep up or down.
Monday. One hour mtn bike, climbing over the top of the McIvor Range, steep and rocky, the new back tyre doing a great job gripping the loose terrain. Kept going to the golf course and then did 25mins barefoot running. This time of the year is magpie swooping season and they did give me a few scares. Also the spur wing plovers aggressively chased me away from their young ones. Finished with a nice easy 10min spin back home.
Tuesday. Stopped at the lake on the way home from the night shift and did 30mins paddling, lethargic.
After 4hrs sleep a 70min run up on the McIvor Range, nice and easy just to wake me up. Drove into Bendigo and joined in a 3km track race, cruised around in a sluggish 12mins or so. Also did some heavy bag work in the clubrooms before going to work.
