Two bike commutes yesterday. 7 miles AM. 10 miles PM. Temps. in the 50's. Heavily traveled road made it an edgy experience.
tpcb, The Pinarello was my ride for the PM. It arrived Tues. but it's been raining here continously since. Finally caught a break last night and took it for a spin. The carbon frame really does take the sting out of a rough road. The Italians craft some beautiful bikes. Pinarello does it as well as any.
Pinarello is definitely up there.
I have always been intrigued by Cervelo, partly by because of the brain like name, partly because it seems like a team effort and not a one, illuminated artisan deal.
I have been riding a Bianchi clunker for years and recently in Milan i bought an imitation Fila frame from Korean students who were making their way back home after a european bike stint. I love two wheels ever since that 16th birthday when i got a super-light no-name frame (ie affordable with top of the line shimano moving parts. in 190 Campy was just out of reach.
Clearly DYRT can include Biking.
today:
PM 12x1hr relay race at caracalla track. 14k. did not want to push. Think i am going to be in Berlin for the marathon next sunday. Anyway still have 7 days to purge summer fatigue.
AM Kids athletics at Paolo Ros track. Encouraging turnout with some really enthusiastic families. Awesome
yesterday
1hr barefoot walk in Villa Pamphili. Saw all my lunchtime buddies. Miss them to say the least.
tpcb,
The basic game plan here is to re-enact the strategy I used back in the 70's to kick a stubborn case of shin splints. i.e. delve into another discipline long enough for a chronic overuse syndrome (running injury) to mend and disappear. X-C skiing did the trick in 73-74. Hopefully biking combined with the skiing this winter will be successful in enabling a return to healthy running. This must be in time to haunt mopak and you, on the slopes and trails of the Shilthorn, MOARG 2011. PS. I nearly fell for a sexy little via Nirone (Bianchi) a few weeks back.
Meanwhile back at the ranch: 30 miles on scenic byways north of Merrill. The organizers of this event need to pick the time ,to NOT coincide with the Colorama Harley Ride.
Loud pipes may save lives, they also contribute to traffic frayed nerves.
50' today along the H2O......no swim.....no watch......I'll assume it was a record......jk........a nice day and a nice run......may go back-to-back and do another tomorrow.....we'll see what the morning brings....
rest
got in about 40' today, again along the water....no swim.....that part of the season may be over..... :( ...next run Wednesday?.....
today
AM
bike commute
Sunday; 90 min road ride. Sunny, temp at 65F. Light traffic.
Monday; 2 mile run after dark. Blustery front bringing in warmer temps made it a noisy night.
Tuesday AM; 16 min. catski on a wet lawn. Too much time on concrete yesterday, the heel stings.
Last three days, all bike commute.
Leaving for Berlin tomorrow.
Bushman, watch that heel, wish i could be of help.
Thought about your pinarello as i had this magazine full of bikes in my hand over the weekend i was truly in awe of some incredible danish designs and others like these

-159 days to The MOARG The Mother Of All Running Gatherings in Gimmelwald, Switzerland, in 2011.
about 33' yesterday after I sent the gang off and before they got back.....legs tired from standing around a lot beforehand, but felt good at the end.....working the watch today, so no run until tomorrow (maybe)....
today early AM : 1 hr on the stationary bike, easy.
8 mile tempo in 41:23
Then did 8 x 400 w 400 jog at 63 average. Pretty tough day today.
today
half hour on the stationary bike pre-breakfast. Then a lot of standing around at marathon village.
It is raining in Berlin. Will have to go with the flow...
Quit Sloughing OFF!
That 100% humidity gave the chills here in Berlin and some extra water weight!
Still managed to close in 3h45 and change, which all things considered i am very satisified with...
...now to continue with hot bath therapy...
Friday got in a two-part 50'ish run......25 out with the gang, watched them do hill loops, then 25' back.....day off Saturday.....50' continuous today along the H2O.....next two days likely off....maybe more if the wx does not cooperate.....
today
Rest.
So Berlin ws the third marathon in less than a 1-year time frame. Need to train seiously to qualify for Boston.
BTW, the Garmin actually had 42.8km. Either it´s out of whack or i ran a lot of zigzag...
hey henry have a nice trip back to KENYA
