A nice write-up published today about Pete and his soon-to-be record run.
From Facebook:
Day 42 Finish: Sun Oct 23, Pete wrapped up PA with a 71.2 mile day in 13:37 for a total of 2979.4 and 87 miles to New York City Hall. Pete will start the final pull at midnight on Mon Oct 24th with estimated arrival into City Hall 3pm - 7pm.
Side note: When Pete starts running at midnight, the elapsed time will be 41 days, 13 hours. The time turns to 42 days 0 hours at 11am EDT.
Hey Guys- Please tell me if you think my assumptions are wrong.
I think Pete's done most of his mileage somewhere around 10-minute pace. Is that right?
I'm sort-of figuring that tomorrow, since he's attempting to go extra-long, and he's at the end of 3000 freaking miles, and he's gonna be on short sleep, you would probably expect a somewhat slower pace.
Like, maybe 10:30 or 11 -ish??
So if he did get going at midnight, and took an hour's break (how long is his usual lunch-break?), he might be getting to the GWB in something like
14-15 hours? (Looks like that should be around 75 miles or so.)
Does that sound about right?
He has some 87 miles to go per his route starting in north Manhattan after crossing the George Washington Bridge. The 75 miles would be a more direct route but that would require going through one of the tunnels (Holland or Lincoln). Avoiding the tunnels seems to be the reason for the longer route.
He could take a 1-2 hour nap somewhere around his long break (40-50 miles), and bring it home. He might be so pumped up he will keep on trucking regardless of how his pace goes.
It would be cool if a running group joined him in Manhattan to help get through the traffic. Several runners dressed as Forrest Gump --as someone suggested earlier-- would make Pete's day.

No, I said 75-ish miles TO the Bridge (because that's the area I'm planning to try and check him out). Then it should be another 11 or 12 across the Bridge and down the length of Manhattan.
I was trying to make an estimate of when he's likely be getting to the Fort Lee area, not to City Hall.
Is his break usually that long? (1 to 2 hours?)
Wish I was in the area to run this last little bit with Pete. It's been much fun watching his progress these last few weeks. Great job Pete for smashing this record!
His usual break is 40 minutes. If he keeps the same pace and break schedule he should take 16-17 hours to finish.
Use his Delorme link to see where he is at during the run. It is accurate enough to know when he is coming. The link runs on an phone well. You'll need to pinch zoom the leftside menu until you can press the white circle with the "+" sign. When the "+" changes to "-" the route will show in blue with an arrowhead (where he is at the moment).

Can you run through the tunnels? What about bikes?

I will, thanks. Just wanted to try and have a decent estimate beforehand, so I could try and plan.

Nope. No pedestrian or cycle capacity in any of the tunnels.
His only option is the GWB, unless he wants to take the ferry, and run in place while he's crossing. (That's probably how Robby would've handled it.)
And, he's off! 87... 86... 85...
He set off at midnight, just as planned!

Jumpin' Jesus! He's already covered like 3 miles.
This guy is a stone-cold killer.
He's liable to be knocking on my window before I get finished with breakfast.
Pete has really slowed down the last 10 minutes, barely walking pace. Anyone in contact with the crew to find out what is happening?
OK, the problem was a steep hill. Once he crested the hill he started rolling.

Rob, in case you're reading, THIS is how it's done, you gutless, cheating, conman narcissist.
Way to go, Pete. An incredible achievement.
Without Asher Delmott's heroism, Rob would have set an unbreakable record. Pete should be very grateful for him.
Already 40+ miles in the can on what should be his last day.
No. Sleep. 'til Manhattan. Too bad he isn't finishing in Brooklyn.
Brojos, this needs to be on the front page.

It's a shame this doesn't get the coverage of cheaters. But this guy is amazing! He will run right by my office today.
