Live tracker:
Day One Summary:
78.16 miles
13.54:00 trip time
5.62 mph average speed
Uh oh. Someone needs to wake up the old guys. Tell them to turn off Matlock and start stretching.
He is also posting to Strava, too.
Nearing the top of the Old Priest Grade Road....that road is crazy steep. Hope he spends a little time in love Groveland, CA.
78 miles in day one is absurd. Is he banking miles or something? Don't you "only" need to average like 58 a day to set the record?
Either way, Go Pete! Super nice, genuine guy.

79.42 for day two! Not sure what his strategy is, but just judging from his website Pete and his crew know what they're doing.
He is banking because he wants to spend lots of time at various Golden Corrals in the Midwest.
I have a hard time getting 79.42 in for my weekly mileage, let alone a one day total. Kudos to him.
Unlike the many crossers this year who declared intentions to break the record, Pete is the first with a genuine chance. He's the real deal.
Amazing start! Will be interesting to see how he's doing in a few weeks.
He needs about 70 a day. Seems dangerous to bank time early in this kind of run, what I know of it, before your body gets accustomed to this kind of distance, but he's no stranger to 200 mile weeks and did 230 and 240 about a month ago. He's not to be underestimated.
btw the Delorme tracker only pings about every 2 minutes, so it loses some distance whenever he's not going straight between pings. It's like the Suunto in long battery life mode, whatever they call it. He actually did 80-81 each of the first two days.
I don't get it. Here is a real runner with a real running background. I get the fact that he is only 3 days in to his attempt, but I think people should be more excited.
Why do we follow a huckster in a Golden Corral loving mini-van and a cheating undereducated DJ more than the real deal?
He is nearly in Nevada.
Thru California in 4 days.

People now realize how easy it is to cheat at this sort of thing. No one impartial is going to be with the runner out in no man's land in Nevada and Utah. The accomplishment is suspect whether legit or accomplished through cheating .

You're not implying something, are you? This guy is as legit as they come.

Isn't this exactly the same scenario as the AP Trail through hike record? If you want things exact, do it on a track. Of course, we wouldn't push ourselves in these distances then would we?
Are there mile splits anywhere? Daily summaries?
The woman teacher Keila Moreno posted all of her runs on Strava. It was pretty interesting to see the variability of her pace. It helped foster legitimacy to the effort, at least in my opinion.
The live tracking in the 2nd post on this thread provides many opportunities to look at his data.
