I swore not to provide input on this thread but alas. Renato Canova is a big proponent of faster than race pace training (105-110%), as it builds mechanical support for race pace training. That's the big difference between Lydiard and Canova: what is the relative importance of race-specific training? Lydiard says very little; just get a huge aerobic base and you'll be ready for anything. Canova says everything hinges on preparing your body for the specific demands of the race.
I really don´t know if you are a Lydiardist. But i know what you are the way you think. You are the paradigm of most of Lydiardism. The Lydiardism, while builds training ideas as aerobic and anaerobic training have no idea what is specific training and the rationale, target, the importance and interest of specific training. You also you don´t.
By the way THE FEELING-BASE TRAINING ANTI-SOVIET training. Ther´s not training as controlled as the Soviet training. Very scientific controlled indeed. This was one of the main characteristics of the soviet training at any level of application, science and rigorous control was the must of Soviet training.
Funny that the same pall that prescribes feeling-base here is the same that defends the Soviet training.
