The re-emergence of traditionally successful WIAC programs is making that more and more difficult.

For the MIAC to get two teams to nationals a (comparatively) weak WIAC is necessary.

Guys, after seeing the St. John’s results today, I think they’re going to win conference. It’s amazing how much more serious they are Outdoor.

Seems like half their team qualified for Drake and that’s without running obscure relays like the Cobbers.

The only reason St. Olaf was in the conversation for Indoor is the MIAC inexplicably has so many mid distance events indoors. And one could argue that they underperformed, which they tend to do at MIAC championships.

The difference will be much more glaring Outdoors. Bethel and St. John’s will finish well ahead of the other schools and I expect Concordia to be solidly third. Their sprints/throws prowess with the Future’s quest to dominate the MIAC will put them ahead of St. Olaf by 30 point. Look for Olaf and Mac to be fighting not to be 5th.

Will Kelly continues to get much faster after leaving Northfield. He ran 8:43 and 13:59 on back to back days at Bryan Clay. Check the transfer portal for any reasonably fast Oles. The secret is out. If you transfer you get much, much faster after leaving Power's training program.

He was too lazy to go to California this year and instead runs All-Americans in 15 mph winds. He doesn’t race his full team until the middle of April. And most of his squad is nowhere near times from last year. He talks a big game about competing at the national level and you see the La Crosses, Lynchburg’s, and even Centrals of the world backing it up by going to big meets like Bryan Clay and Boston. Meanwhile he barely leaves Northfield and the team is nowhere as good as they are in cross country. I’ll repeat what others have said, the Oles deserve better coaching. The Edina cosxh is waiting to take over

How do we help Turlington enter the transfer portal. He can train on his own and better off next year. Then go run a grad year somewhere. Clearly that worked well for Kosche, Kelly, and Logan. All have run much, much faster. And had coached with vision and purpose.

National qualifying is about putting your athletes in the best scenario to make the National championship. Racing a 10K in those conditions is just stupid. Lars wisely dropped out. I’m also trying to figure out why he has four meets in seven days on the schedule. I’m sure Phil is shaking his head somewhere.

I greatly enjoyed watching the Oles lead every distance heat and race today. And enjoyed watching them lose the lead every single race too. Silly Oles will never learn how to race tactically. Mac and Carleton, meanwhile, are masters of that art.

I don’t think Coach Chunko’s coaching is the blame for all the poor racing tactics. At some point you have to get sick of getting out kicked and learn from your mistakes. If I had to run for that dipshiit, I’d just run my own race. There is no way I’m going to let some overgrown frat boy ruin my career.

I’d rather win than be “brave.” But enjoy your moral victories Oles. I remember a time when they were dangerous racers. Now they’ve become first rate pacers and the Johnnies/Scots are the teams on the rise.
