People who think she's cheating are idiots. You still have to train when you're on drugs, you just recover faster. She's barely even been able to train over the last year or so. There's no chance she's even had enough time to get the benefits of drugs. She's just that talented. People saying she's doping have a weird mental disorder.
Can I just make a general comment about the discussion of PED's - please start a Thread directly related to the topic, so that those that want to discuss / debate can do so....and those that do not want to read/participate, do not have to see every thread filled end up being filled with accusations / insults (of course, this means above and beyond the normal level).
I'm not saying the topic does not have merit...but it does not need to continually bleed into every discussion regarding certain athletes. I get that LetsRun is a discussion thread for both positive and negative feedback, but this is a topic that people need to be careful not to take too far. These are amateur athletes...these types of discussions can be very damaging.

If that is the case, how did she improve so much? People don't improve when they 'barely train'.
There have been many studies that show what happens to the bodies of elite (olympic) and sub-elite athletes in periods of detraining. Vo2 max, lactate clearance, power, etc.
Either she is training significantly more (which some have argued she is), or physiologically you are not going to make big gains and will more likely have losses in performance. Can't have it both ways, sorry.
Yep. Arguing that someone can make significant gains despite allegedly not training or being limited in their training is a very unconvincing argument on this subject. It militates to the opposite conclusion.

Every time this issue comes up we get the "talent" default answer. You know, when Houlihan suddenly went from 15:49 to 15:06 to 15:00 to 14:35 to 14: 23 it was "talent." Etc.
I do enjoy though the argument that someone "is just that talented" when trying to explain the ability to run significant, successive PRs off of barely training. Yep, the good old magic late bloomer running gene in action.
I will add though that the athlete in question did not look undertrained. Very far from it. Even had veins protuding from her arms. The question given injury and loss of training time is whether something was being used to maximize limited training or to prevent fitness loss and allow for an immediate recovery of fitness.

She had a major knee surgery, then won the D1 national 5k championship. I completely agree. If any college woman runner has a long history of doping it is her.

What was the probability of a high school runner recently getting involved in a doping scandal? Doping happens on all levels, although less likely at the high school or college levels. However you have things North Carolina A&T and Duane Ross. Similar, UF's coach (who must not be named) has his own colorful history.
So as to probability, I start with the coach. I would say this one is in the"likely" category. You don't want to believe it, and the athlete would not come up with it on their own, but the coach comes from the same type of background as Ross where PEds were just the norm and no one expected to get caught even at the pro level. (Houlihan was whistle-blowed).
Anyway, forget anything else. Answer me one question: Can you point to another college distance runner that looks like Valby. Muscular and vascular (visible veins) but with no body fat. We see that in the pro ranks based on the doping methods they use like nandrolone. But I do not recall ever seeing that in the college ranks. Unless said athlete is doing what the pros do.
