Guys let me jump in here, see a lot of confused faces out there, I know you guys are looking for a voice of reason, an oasis of sanity
When Katelyn Tuohy set her record a lot of us asked well what kind of course was it? We didn't immediately start throwing up the parade! Or trying to shout it from the rooftops.
No rather we look at the race, looked at the info we could find, and gradually we started to piece together that it was a really fast time on a reasonably normal Cross Country course
Then the speed ratings came in and Katelyn Tuohy hit 176 then the next week 177, not positive but I'm pretty sure she follow that up with a 174 or 175
So was like 3 or 4 weeks ago she was basically running off the chart times and ratings and it was just clear it was another level after she was already incredible her sophomore year
But the point I'm driving towards is, Basically from all the evidence it looks like Hutchins is right on par with Katelyn Tuohy sophomore year
Their speed ratings were pretty much identical Tuohy hit 172, Hutchins 171. Now the 5K times line up pretty similar if you take into account all the factors
Anyway good for Hutchins it looks like she's really stepped it up and is the elite Runner and is on par with probably the best all-around girls distance Runner her Breakout year.
The thing is Katelyn Tuohy really stepped it up for junior year. For good and bad. She improved but she also got injured
Now reasonable person looking at the evidence would say that Katelyn Tuohy Amber Trotter and Melody Fairchild gave more epic performances in cross country than Jenna Hutchins has so far
And stop it already with cross country records there's no cross country record cuz every course is different. It's just a thing that is hyped by media Outlets because they want to sell. For the last time there's no cross country record there's only the times you run and the difficulty of the course and the conditions that day
Or I guess to put it more simply there's simply course records!
Now Jenna Hutchins seems like a really nice person. She seems like a genuinely nice person who's giving it her all. Hopefully she keeps the mileage down and is more focused on health and the future than immediate Glory because unfortunately High School phenoms don't have a great track record
