The fast women have been letting the Americans break the wind for them. Gidey is waiting for Tola to catch her so she can draft off him kicking to the finish.
There just is no commentary about what is happening each mile. The announcers seem to be magically surprised that the enitre women's field is together but there are only 2 men there but they somehow refuse to talk about pace.
I reckon that we can surmise that the pace is fast.
Tola now passing women from their elite field. He should get $50,000 for the course record and another $5,000 for each woman from the elite field (25 min. headstart) he passes.
NYC is slow because of bridge start and uphills, adds +2 minutes to the pros vs other WMM
They all usually jog to 20-22 miles and then race the finish for the prize money.
Yeah it's a bit stupid to race this way, they should have a race where it's not over until the lead is at least +1 minutes on 2nd place, just keep making it longer and longer lol
Remember 2017 when Shalane got to win because she dropped the hammer in her new vaporflys and everyone basically got cramps or otherwise died.
I've never gotten a chance to study Obiri's form this slow, it's like her recovery day but still with the massive arm swing, imagine her next to one of those Japanese women that run with their arms vertical at their sides.
Rupp needs to be co-commentator for every major race that he isn't participating in. Enthusiastic, great insight, and clearly interested in the race. He seems like a totally different person compared to his past interviews.

It’s cute seeing the American women thinking they have a shot right now. Can’t wait for them to get their doors blown off and then pretend like they were actually in contention in the post race interviews
What happened to Taylor? She drop out or just get her doors blown off that quick? And you wonder why Chicago wouldn’t pay her.
