Initially, this thread was entitled "UCLA track coach, Sean Brosnan, Fired for NCAA violations" but we changed it as Brosnan told us he was simply not renewed for next year.
Or he could have started at a JUCO like Larsen did.
This is amazing… juco or naia would be an epic plan for him… basically the Wild West of recruiting and management… you can do what you want and also find some legit athletes… this should be his next move!
Huntington! Brosnan takes over the distance program, the university settles the lawsuits and tells the Johnsons to eff off forever, and Sean guides Addy Wiley to Olympic glory in an epic tale of redemption for both coach and college!
He can hold a stopwatch and yell splits. Recall his incredible GENIUS as a coach when we told runners they were running 1600 meters but it was actually 1610 meters? Wow! So innovative! Oh don't forget he just copied what Soles and Tim O'Rourke did from LA84 training clinics so nothing new. BYU ready! 25 yo frosh!
I just assumed that Brosnan had promised in his hiring interview that he could get all of the Youngs/Sahlmans to transfer/come to UCLA. He was obviously underqualified to be a college coach; the hire was on the level of if Virginia had hired Scott Raczko solely because of Webb and Richard Smith.
When he got none of them to come it failed two ways: he didn't fulfill the only reason he was hired and that five runners who Brosnan 'made' didn't want to have anything to do with him was another huge red flag.

I heard Huntington has an opening. Can you imagine him training up Addy Wiley into an Olympic medal. This site would lose its cotton picking collective mind!....

Nice take - I just heard they let him go because he only got Barnett, McDonnell and Frias when they also expected Cook and Touhy. He promised to be loud and brash, but the video was just lukewarm coffee. Next time he'll underpromise and over deliver.
I have zero issues with the guy when he coached at NP or UCLA.
Regardless, he's surely a way better than average HS Coach, but.........................--->he was gifted by some very, very talented distance runners. He pretty much got about 5 Jeff Nelsons in a 2 year period.
I'm sure you are reading every post Mr. Brosnan, so it's nothing personal, but you were given a boat load of talent in a very short period of time. With that said, you also did a great job coaching them. Well done sir!
All this baseless speculation about Coach Brosnan is just hate. You guys have proven through numerous posts and threads that you hate the man for being successful at the high school level. It is sad to see. That being said, who cares?! This is not about him at all. This is about UCLA track and field being ran into the ground by admin. Brosnan pulled the curtain back and broke the code. He let you know it is those in charge screwing this thing up.
Since Bob Larsen retired UCLA has proven to be clueless about how to be successful. Stability in the program and local profile are zero. Brosnan provided a name at least, which is a part of the Bruin lore and allure. Now you cannot name a staff member. No one on staff can walk around locally and be recognized. It is a bad time for a storied program. Alumni are not happy, and the voices are rising. This is not what UCLA has been. No sprint coach and no XC/LD coach on August 1st is a terrible sign of health.
No. This thread is about Brosnan. There is a different one about UCLA teack. You are in the wrong place. Brosnan got canned. He screwed up and now has no income. He is at the unemployment office standing in line. Odd to think about but certainly true.

Correct. After speaking with someone in the know, it is clear that UCLA admin are a bunch of idiots. There were no violations, NCAA did not find anything remotely suspicious. The admin have no spine to dig in and back their guy. Zero loyalty or trust. Bronson was unjustly let go. Why the hell would you not fight back against your rival program? A bunch of gutless pussies. I hope their next coach (Shayla Houlihan) realizes what a snake pit she is stepping into.

I had a guy I knew.
Got accused of r*pe. There wasn't enough evidence to charge him or anything. By the court of law, he was innocent.
I still cut him out of my life. He was in that position, with enough red flags, and enough doubt that I wasn't going to stand up for him. But again he was innocent by law.
Was I in the wrong? Should I have continued to associate with this guy?

This whole thing is hilarious. The Brosnan faithful went from boasting about how they would be on the podium in 3 years to backing a guy who got canned after less than a year. They will buy whatever BS this low life is selling.
it was no great conspiracy. The guy created more problems than he was worth. That’s the bottom line. He isn’t some national treasure coach that is worth putting up with the noise he creates. Bye bye! Back to where you came from; irrelevancy.
In response to the guy above: The problem is not SB or his fans/detractors. The point is, a lack of loyalty and spine shown by the administration. No one is willing to stand up and battle for what is right. If the matter was so cut and dry, why not come out and make a statement on what transpired? Why the shady backroom double dealing? Why the lack of transparency? Lay it all out on the table...

Why?
Because that opens them up to all sorts of law suits and fueds. They just decided not to renew his contract and are moving on.
That is just how the world works these days. Laying it out on the table only opens you up to get screwed.

Loyalty for what? What is right? He was an employee that caused more headaches than he was worth. Simple as that. They don’t owe anyone an explanation or transparency. Does everyone who is fired from their jobs get some kind of report, press release or official response. He isn’t that important. He was a pain. Good bye Sean!
