The article was initially entiteld, "Zane Robertston!!!!" but we changed it to make it more descriptive. Here is our article on his bust and fake excuses (he said he went to a hospital for a COvid-19 vaccine but they gave him EPO instead) which points out that in 2016 he expressed frutation at the amount of doping in the sport:
It's easier to get a visa in Kenya than to score EPO. You just go to the office in Eldoret, say "Jambo" to the two girls, drop them a few shillings, and you're sorted.
Hopefully, for his sake/life, he won't give the girls a little tickle and he'll leave. Once he's left, he's free to talk and talk he will...

I really am not trying to be harsh about this; still.... the suicidal claim is a bit much to me. The white guy claims he's going to kill himself over using EPO only one time. Meanwhile, Africans get vilified up and down on this board often when no evidence of drug use is even available that they've done anything. This reeks of a man begging for privileged sympathy when he should get none. Granted, I don't want anyone to kill themselves, but the suicidal stance along with the obviously lying one time statement is just pathetic to me.
I find it interesting, looking back, that thrower Valerie Adams was so publicly concerned someone was going to sabotage her re. doping.
I guess she was setting up her defense just in case … Def a dark eye in NZ athletics.
Plausible given how pervasive it is in New Zealand rugby (union & league) starting at high school level to club all the way to the All Blacks. She probably has access to the same strength coaches as these rugby players.
You know nothing about field athletes. For several years Valerie Adams was the best in the world at her event. She was nonetheless consistently short of what were obviously doped world marks in her event. This was despite that she was clearly an exceptional athlete. I've seen her in person. About 6'4" and an impressive athlete without being bulked or ripped. (Her brother, the NBA player, is 6'9"). If she was doped those Cold War records would have gone long ago. She was also outraged to be cheated by a later confirmed doper at London in 2012.

I would never argue all white Americans are racist. But what these threads show is that a surprising number of them aren't very bright. Quite a few do think the earth is flat, that it was formed only a few thousand years ago and that science is what Joe Rogan tells them.

I agree. He sounded very sincere, and certainly contrite. He has been humbled. Reading this thread, it dawned on me that ALL of us have effed up in some way or another- lied, fudged our taxes, emotionally or physically cheated on our significant other, etc. We’ve done something- you’re thinking about it right now. None of us have any room to judge or give this guy a hard time. He acknowledged his mistake, apologized, and that should be enough.
Bust, after bust, after bust in Kenya. Clearly the authorities are, at last, motivated and willing to address the shame being brought on their country. Yet still we have no whistle-blowers, at all. There must be some real scary mafia-type organisation behind whatever the hell is happening out there. Running needs a Floyd Landis moment. The sooner the better. Someone who knows enough and is willing to go through whatever it takes to bring the whole thing down. I was kinda hoping that person might be Robertson, but alas, he seems too fragile.
A way out for predicaments for making massive boo-boos like this is the 'today is the first day of the rest of my life' philosophy. He can't control the past but he can do right from this moment on, and that offers someone in his predicament space to move forward and even to grow. That requires him to sing like the dawn chorus in NZ and keep singing. That's the right thing to do. Even if he doesn't have his road to Damascus moment, he will soon realize that the world he wishes to live in demands it. I agree, he talks....he tells all....and as a world famous Mzungo in Iten for most of his life mixing with all those crews...he has it all to say.

He didn't. You think someone who has showed he has lied throughout has made a truthful claim. He can get EPO anywhere he wants in Kenya. Just like all the other distance runners.

There was yet another Kenyan distance runner popped the week before Robertson. It's been a flood that exceeds any other country. Coe has said Kenyans made up 40% of total doping positives in athletics over 2022. They're still at it.
I do think Zane is mostly being truthful about his emotional journey since getting busted, and maybe even about this being a one-off event. But I am having a hard time buying his story about where he got his EPO. Granted, I understand this would be the most sensitive part of the story and perhaps he does feel pressured to keep this a secret.
I'm just trying to understand how it would be possible to smuggle EPO--a drug that must remain refrigerated--from Ethiopia into Kenya WITHOUT being noticed. I literally have no idea how plausible this would be. I know for certain this would definitely be difficult entering into a country like the US, especially if flying into the country. Could someone speak to this for Kenya?
My understanding is also that the typical shelf life of the standard EPO drug is 24 months. Zane claims the EPO his ex wife got (a single vial?) was just sitting at home (in his fridge?) for a long time. Would the timeline here even allow it to be plausible this alleged EPO vial was still good at the time he took it?
I just wish so badly we could get a full, detailed account of what really happened.
