Can you provide the source for this? In the big Kipchoge workout thread by Mzungu from Iten, he said that Kipchoge doesn't actually take days off. He said Kipchoge's definition of "off" was still jogging 30-40 minutes a day.

Kipchoge does three tempo workouts a week.

1 is a long run at 95% of marathon pace

1 is long tempo intervals like 4 x 2 miles

1 is short tempo intervals like Ks

That’s a lot of tempo running but he spaces it well and rarely runs faster than tempo pace. Remember half marathon pace is a “speed” workout for a marathoner but it’s also a comfortable tempo effort.

Highest intensity is CV (8-10k pace), Tempo runs are at or around Tinman Tempo and other days are extremely easy. 1) Easy mileage - Kipchoge runs 6:30/mile (4:00/km). That's disgustingly slow for an athlete of his caliber, many HS and most college athletes run faster on their easy days. Drew Hunter runs around 7:00-7:15/mile (coached by Tinman). 2) Workouts.

I could go on but the similarities between Tinman and Kipchoge are outstanding. Are they related? Probably not, but it seems the system that was used by America's best HS runner in recent years and the best marathoner in the world is working. There was a thread about Loudon Valley here recently - guess which system they are using.

Yes, there are many coaches that have been doing this training for a long time, BUT for everyone, there are at least 20 coaches that kill their HS and college athletes with super hard interval sessions and tempos that turn into races and hope that a few of them survive, killing off many super talented athletes in the process.

Did Brad Hudson hard 120 mile weeks work for Allie Kiefer while she was preparing for the marathon? Did Erin Finn ever reach her potential being injured 9 months out of 12 in a typical year because she was training extremely hard and doing superhero workouts like "The Michigan" every season? I wish MORE coaches would adopt a smart Tinman system that is proven and aims at long-term development, imagine how many more great runners we would have in the US..

This update on Kipchoge means: #1 in London is determined. Places 2-whatever are up for grabs.

Looks to me like Kipchoge does a lot of MP and 1/2 MP, plus stuff like 90-95% MP for long runs.

80%... is that including or not including the extra 4%?

This isn't entirely accurate as another quote from Kipchoge has him running 40-50 minutes very easy the day after a marathon. Perhaps he does run most days in the first month after a marathon but does no workouts at all.

Tinman tested his system on himself and was able to run a 29 minute 5k, so he knows that the system he developed works just as well for world class runners. Just because he doesn't know how to coach doesn't mean that the system he developed is totally ridiculous.

I have been training 79% and when Eliud and I race, he will lose.

Making sure sessions are at the right intensity requires 100% focus and dedication.

i was merely reacting to the article, not tidbits of rumors of what a friend of a friend of an athlete may have said.

Are you sure he didn't run for 30 days. Are you sure this doesn't mean he ran nothing but easy jogs. I thought he has run everyday for years even after hard races. He just does a super slow shakeout jog.

Seems runnersworld can’t wrote a decent article. Earlier in this same article, they quoted Kipchoge saying

“I tell those who are truly skeptical that they need to see our training, what we are doing for the whole week and then compare the [practice] times [to races],” he said. “We are working even harder in training.”

Does this mean he’s only racing at 75%??
