Marathon's either Kipchoge if you count Breaking2, or Wilson Kipsang otherwise.

Alan Webb has never been and never will be a top in the world athlete. It doesn't matter how many people you call dirty. Webb's career was a farce based on his innate talent. Same with Hall. No one cares about his 2:04 marathon like no one cares about De Grasse's windy 9.69. Webb doesn't even come close to other non-African milers like Nick Willis. He is certainly fast (when running against football players) , but clean ?

Add to that his persistent joints problems (side effects of...) since playing in Spain.

Note that in the sprint that resulted in that goal, Bale was clocked at 7.2 seconds for 65 meters, despite being pushed off the pitch and running in a diagonal (and running in football boots on grass). That came in the 90th minute of the match. In an average match Bale runs between 9 and 11 km. Wouldn't be surprised he ran more in that match.

That's why he's paid a million euros a week and the top two earning Kenyan sportsmen (other than white boy Froome) are b-level football players.

It's not that Bale doesn't have the physiology to be an Olympic 800m runner, it's that Kenyan Olympic 800m runners don't have the physiology to play for Real Madrid. (having said that, Rudisha might be the only elite Kenyan runner who does).

What I am not going to accept are athletes from countries with national drug programs, like the Eastern Bloc, China, Turkey, and Morocco, countries with extraordinary corruption and non-existent or limited drug testing, like Kenya and Ethiopia, guys competing in the EPO era with ridiculously fast times that no one can come close to today in the era of micro-dosing, and Spaniards-Portuguese and other European athletes of the 1970s and 1980s, where blood doping was rife. That explains the absence of Coe from my list in the 800m and 1k. I don't believe in the recent fantastic and widespread South and Southern African sprint performances because there is very, very limited testing and a huge leap beyond their historical performances. I discount sprint performances from Americans like Maurice Greene because of drug worries. Bromell came up so quickly, so young, without an overpowering physique, so I thought it was quite possible he wasn't doping. Ato Bolden seems like a great guy, so it's possible he was clean. Christian Coleman, Jeremy Wariner, and Quincy Watts seem possible to me in so far as they did so well already in college, where I presume that runners have fewer resources to dope, but I may well be wrong. (Wariner obviously ran 43.45 years later, but I think he ran 44 flat in 1984 right after his college season.). Cram was the most liked guy on the entire 1500m circuit in the 1980s. Even Coe happily congratulates him. He started as a bit of a prodigy with 3:57 at 17 and made steady progress, though he didn't really go for time until 1985. I hate to say it but I don't really believe in El G, despite that 2001 anti-drug comment, because of Abdelkader, his coach, and his pacer, who tested positive later on. I don't believe in Kiprop because of scant testing, though he's a good guy. I don't believe in Kiplagat, who managed to underperform at most world and Olympic championships.

Similarly, the American sprinters have a particularly bad history. So if you exclude certain countries because of their history, you should exclude American sprinters too, or even all Americans, like you exclude all Moroccans.

The significant thing is really the NA's from 1500m-10000m for this decade. Naturally a certain person will soon turn up here to dispute that significance.

If the 5 and 10 are clean, wouldn't you assume the marathon would be Bekele as well? Assuming not Kipchoge Breaking2. And if you dispute Bekele in the 'thon than Kipchoge has his 2:03:05 from London for next on all-time list.

In the late 1920's the use of PED's was banned, but no testing was implemented. Go ahead and claim any record was clean.

In the late 1930's, amphetamines hit the scene, and the mile WR dropped 6 seconds in less than 10 years, despite world war 2 going on and only neutral countries competing. After the war it dropped another 10 seconds in barely as many years. Then in 1968, the IOC implemented in-competition testing. All the record progressions slowed drastically, but not completely because athletes could still use steroids with impunity out of competition.

You don't give modern-day athletes the benefit of the doubt, even though they pass tests. Why presume record holders were clean who were never tested? Especially ones for whom doping was legal. That's tantamount to declaring that doping doesn't work.

It's all a matter of perspective and who you are a fan of.

For example, Muir fans & supporters will defend her as clean while detractors will cast aspersions on her soley because of her very fast 1500 time. Same with the Coe, El G, Webb, Rudisha, Rupp, Jager, Centro, etc., fanbase, i.e.."my guy is clean...and your guy is dirty."

I've had to literally break up fights in the locker room over "their guy" being accused of doping. It's a very emotional subject when young athletes idolize & look up to these runners...nothing new there.

Finally, although Bekele ran so fast it's unlikely he's clean, there is no evidence (failed test, leaks, coach associations) that lead me to think he doped. Innocent until proven guilty, and there literally isn't a slight bit of evidence. ie: paula isn't officially a doper but she did dope and we all know it. Tirunesh as well, due to association with her dirty af sister. However, guys like Bekele, theirs no dirt.
