But...the Poles ran like a true team, very exciting race, my congrats.
At least the US didn't run like their usual face-palm effort of bumbling the baton or stepping out of their lane, it's just that Norwood, who has a pr of 44.44 ran like a high schooler - hard start, lactic acid finish, and he drifted out to lane 3 to cut off the Pole, kinda unethical though legal.
Just watched the race again and the aftermath - all the teams/racers shook hands, except the Americans, what a bunch of ungracious losers.

poland seems to run really well indoors. are they shorter or run faster on turns?
When can they exit their lanes to go to the inside? I thought it would be when they pass that white line, but a bunch of them start moving inwards before the line.

You are correct, the Pols historically have had good 4x4s, but keeping it real, it's usually the women who are competing for medals and success for the men is usually making the finals. What Poland achieved is close to a miracle; I have never seen a relay where every leg runs a PR. I would not call out the Pols for doping because none of their athletes ran faster than anyone can say they were incapable of, it was just a matter of putting it all together on the same day.
This is great fodder for far right nationalists PiS/Law & Justice party.

Ksczczot and Lewandowski could not have made that relay, those guys where real sprinters running 45x. Also, the USA didn't do anything wrong, Poland ran incredible, it took a WR to beat the U.S.

And it was pretty funny that Bolden counted them out and almost immediately the Pole anchor leg started cutting into the gap.
The inexperience of the US runners showed a bit as it looked like they were running wide almost the entire race.

The anchor Krzewina has the Polish 500 m record 1:00.56. He wasn't going to fade. I thought for a second it looked like he accelerated into the turn on the second lap, but when I saw the gap with 100 to go I also thought he would get silver. I couldn't believe what I was seeing over that last 75 meters.
The Polish outdoor 4 x 400 record is legit. 2:58.00. Goodwill games 1998 behind the WR of the Americans.
A sub 2:58 may just be possible this year for this quartet, but it will take another amazing race with a few PR's. Since this is a non Olympic and WC year, not sure where they would have a chance for this - Euro outdoor maybe.

Based on this conversation, It looks like there are two kinds of people out there: The Polish People :) and the People that want to be Polish : 0) Just kidding. Poles did outstanding job winning this competition, that's for sure. But seriously, the fact is that the indoor competition is a lot less regarded. It's also a fact that Poles can't win any big 400 events outdoors (except for one lady over 40 years ago )because the competition is so fierce and everyone gets ready for it. Most indoor competition is treated like a stepping stone to the real world outside. I am not trying to get anything away from them. The win is a win and especially setting a WR was remarkable.
PS. Trump maybe not be the smartest guy out there but America is still the best country in the World. trust me.

Well, the fact is a much fewer percentage of people go for track in Poland than the US. It's not popular.
Also, I don't think its very easy to train for most track events year round in Poland. you gotta travel.

I have been around the world and visited many countries. America is up there, but not necessary the "best". Certainly not when it comes to education, housing, social services. Australia, Norway, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Iceland and others rank right along side it. I could live in any of those countries.

They have won almost 100 medals in the last 4 Olympics and have set numerous world records over the years, many in the field events. They are very good sprinters, but even better long sprinters/middle distance runners. They also have some very big and powerful athletes- shot put, hammer, discus.

I noticed the same thing. Most of the US runners were running right on the edge of lane one, basically in lane two. I only ran a couple legs of the 4x400 in high school, but even I knew to stay by the rail and I was a punk teenager. They must have either really not been paying attention, or they thought they were unbeatable
Damn do those Polish guys look stacked. Athletics is so out of whack now it's unreal. Remember how these runner types looked in the 70s & 80s barring the few freaks. These 400m guys SHOULD be looking more like Andrew Rock. Instead they look like Ben Johnson & Michael Johnson. Not normal.
The Us coaches were probably paranoid about all the DQ's and took no chances after factoring the steep banks and the high speed.
Their win reminded me of the Texas Relays men's 4x4 in the mid-2000s. Minnesota won with four incredibly pasty white guys over UT, Baylor, TCU, Houston, et al. The silence and the shock as the fans filed out of the stadium after that race was incredible. In the words of jack Buck "I don't believe what I just saw."
