WTF Four Polish dudes broke the 4x400 world record

Hoorah! Hoorah for Poland.

Poland didn't even win its heat. Pretty shocking run.

I was just rewatching it trying to figure out splits but couldn't.

But the best was Ato Boldon's call:

"This has been a brilliant final leg by Vernon Norwood because what he's done is he's taken any thoughts of the guys behind him of narrowing the gap. "

Right as he says that, the Polish guy blows by Norwood to get world record.

We're trying to figure out their splits. Haven't seen them anywhere.

This should tell you all you need to know about the value of indoor track. Most of the fields at the indoor “world championships” are worse than an average diamond league meet. A few good ones, such as women’s 3k, but also some that are actually far below any DL field, such as men’s 800m. Just throw out the indoor championships. Move toward a “winter track” season with outdoor meets in warm locales.

The real Dope was American Norwood. After the last turn he started running wide—all the way to the outer edge of lane 2—in an attempt to keep the Polish runner from running a straight line to the finish. So unprofessional.

I heard once they get home they're going to get their gold medals bronzed.

Actually if you watch most big races the lead runner almost always drifts out of their lane. It happened a few times this weekend. Not really unprofessional as long as it's not a sudden lane change or as long as their is no contact made.

300 million people and it's still rare you can get 4 guys or 4 ladies together who won't fumble a relay baton in a major championship.

Poland, pound for pound, is a better country than the United States in every way.

That's a joke. Poland has absolutely nothing over on the United States of America even with Trump in the White House. And certainly not your authoritarian-turning current leader.

But congratulations to Poland on the win. Maybe they will lose it on a drug offense, but congratulations as well on the WR. This record is soft because national teams rarely compete at this event indoors, but you have excellent college teams going at the event many times every year so it is better than some records.

I don’t know what happens to the US in relays. The US probably has 10 of the top 20 individual 400 runners in the world but they can still lose the 4x4.
