Developing Story: Kenyan Coach sent home for posing as Ferguson Rotich in Urine test

This is a step in the right direction, but so many obvious dopers are still racing.

Maybe this is only a whereabouts failure. The athlete's ID said he was in the dining hall, when actually he was somewhere else. He still has 2 strikes to go, and then can still appeal to the CAS if hit with an anti-doping rules violation (ADRV).

I agree, this whole problem could have been avoided if the dining hall personnel had done their job and checked IDs correctly. I wonder how many others in Rio village are faking credentials?

Back when I was in college (20 yrs ago), no one EVER "checked" IDs. Sure, there was some dude sitting next to the mealcard scanner, but that was just to make sure you used it properly, not to ensure you weren't using your friend's ID.

He was not "posing as Rotich" to the dope-testers, and in fact he told them who he was, and why he had someone else's ID (to access the dining area).

They (correctly I assume) still forced the coach to give a urine sample. Then they tracked down Rotich and tested him too.

I don't think that Rotich actually violated any anti-doping rules, though he probably violated the Olympic village conduct rules about allowing IDs to be shared.

I am not surprised. It is an excellent excuse... that he got from 1-800-DOPER-CHEATER-LIAR-3456-CALL-SAL

It is just an unfortunate COINCIDENCE... that just happened by mistake anyway. It is a simple misunderstanding (like Paula Radcliffe's suspicious blood test result indicating an autologous blood transfusion at the 2003 WC half-marathon race when Paula DESTROYED the competition…after a bout of anemia... which was treated with wheat grass and ostrich meat…which contain iron). OK?

Therefore…it does not count as a suspicious coincidence.

It is just a regular, non-suspicious coincidence… that just happened by mistake anyway.

According to this story, the coach was just using Rotich's credentials to get free meals at the athlete's village.

I read the coaches quotes. This is actually dumb enough to be believable.

Now, what we need is confirmation that he tried to tell the doping control people that he wasn't the athlete.

While it would potentially be great for a full bright light to be shown on just how bad the doping problem may be in Kenya, including Kenya being kicked out of the Olympics... This may not be the thing to blow the lid off.

Great that Kenya has made it a crime to dope, assist in doping etc.

The inside word is that elite 800 guys don't believe even Rudisha is clean.

Someone posted the other day that corruption is standard business practice in most 3rd world nations. And that's pretty much what I've seen in my travels.

So some black African fella with a receding hairline has a small photo on his ID of a black African fella with a receding hairline and the flunky sitting at the doorway of the dining hall is supposed to notice. FMD, we've had 18 year old Kenyans being called 38 year olds here on LR.

I just rewatched the Stockholm Diamond League where Rotich beats Rudisha. I've seen some posters here say that they can tell a doper by his form in the late stages of the race, almost "muscling through". I think that's sort of BS. On the other hand, you'll notice that Rotich does appear to be using more of his upper body and arms in his kick, which Rudisha and Bosse seemed way too gassed to do at that point. Or maybe he's just better.

That's not BS; however, that's not what you are going to see every time. If you go back and watch some races won by dopers, you will often notice the lack of latic/muscle fatigue which is often an effect of steroids. Also, you will notice an uncanny mid race burst that looks almost like fartlet, were the athlete does not appear to be affected. For example when you see an athlete drop a 4:20 mile mid-race.

The whole thing could actually be entrapment.

See, the Rio officials saw the whole dining ID charade, but decided to "let it go", and instead send in the anti-doping squad to really bust 'em.

It makes sense. If you catch them swapping meal cards maybe you profit only by the price of lunch, while you could probably get an 800m competitor to pay some $$$ to besmirch Rotich.

Either:

(a) this was done WITH Rotich's knowledge, which means he has to be banned for 2 years; or

(b) this was done WITHOUT Rotich's knowledge, which means the coach suspects something, or is jeopardising Rotich's future - or god knows what else. This would be very bizarre.

After Baumann's toothpaste excuse and Mitchell's sex excuse nothing is beyond the realms of possibility where doping is involved, witness all these delicate athletes with heart/angina problems requiring meldonium, etc.

El Keniano, what is your explanation? Surely the Sunday Times, Hajo Seppelt, and Zane Robertson are behind this.

The details aren't clear. I'm not going behind the "in line at the cafeteria and then escorted; coach pulls some Animal House hijinks" storyline. There could be a thousand different ways this actually went down while close enough to this spin.

We already another coach was sent home for charging 10,000 (Dollars? Shillings? Reals?) to give warning of a test.

AK is already scapegoating coach. "Athlete had nothing to do with it".

But IOC didn't even want to talk about the known doping violations. we know how far CAS and IOC are stretching the "no fault" clause of whereabouts. ("Not my fault I didn't challenge the failure at the time and only brought up my excuse after I was sanctioned" Armitstead or "not ky fault I didn't answer the doorbell" Farah or "not my fault Indidn't change my online whereabouts forms" Kipsang.)

Not to mention the "no evidence of doping" crew around here. Two coaches sent home for doping issues hasn't been organized into an excel and published in a journal, so its not hard evidence they will say...

Fcuk this is irritating. I can't even same Same siht, different day, because its always new siht.

Hope they took blood sample too! And that coach should be in jail and banned for life from anything to do with sports.
