Except he won't be able to get into many meets as a pro and he won't be able to practice many places as well. He's also locked into this deal for 10 years. If he actually does become world class he might have been able to earn far more.

This is true. Who doesn't automatically smile or chuckle thinking about the dorms or bus trips with the team to overnight meets. Good luck to him and I hope he continues to improve. It does seem like Lyles, Norman, and S. McG are the kids who should be going pro. They can actually compete at a pro level right now. Hunter doesn't have the form or chops to be a difference maker at this level yet.
Yeah true he won't be able to get into many meets for the next few years until he actually starts running legit professional times. Basically he's gonna be entering in college meets and trying to compete with the best collegiates for a while.
I'm gonna guess that his base salary is probably not that great but has lots of bonuses for doing well so that when he does start becoming a legit good professional in a few years his salary will go way up.

As much as I'd love more titles, who cares. Drew is smart for taking the money. The landscape of running is now that of nba drafts outta hs. Preps are getting that good, consistently now. A great sign for American running.
He'd be stupid to not take the money, no matter the results, or how much learning the rounds of collegiate racing would help him (or keep his mind closed and hinder him)

These contracts (I understand) do not prohibit one from volunteering their time to non-profit organizations (like Princeton).
