Not Nike.
YES!!!!
Good stuff. I love it. Don't want to pull a Webb.
Why do you guys always feel the need to back yourselves on the back for having insider information?
Adidas! Awesome! I like how he can go to college wherever he wants now and gets it paid for. Really smart thing to do.
Take that, John Capricvntti.
Good luck to him. Hopefully he finds a path like Jager. I will be interested to see how it works out. He's going pro on potential not current times, so it's a tough one to figure out what the best move is. Obviously it is his call to make.
Big hit to Oregon's XC title chances.

Why do you always need the need to criticize them? I rarely, if ever, feel the feel to do that.
10 year deal!
so can't join any of the Nike groups until he's 28 no matter how sick he gets of training on his own with a remote coach...
feel like he should've tried a year at oregon first...
Yeah, he can go to school in Boise.

If he says that Oregon and Coach Powell are the best that there is why not win some NCAA championships and get some experience in between high school and the professional stage? Which are very different, especially for Hunter. I get the money thing too but honestly I feel like he's not poor and he would probably be going to Oregon for free anyway. The pro money would inevitably come anyway as longb as he stays healthy.

actually such a great deal.
Free education at ANY university, 10 years guaranteed pay.
I'm sure there are tons of reductions clauses, but who cares if you have a guaranteed free college education.
I'm happy for him.

Very good points.
If I was the Hunters ..id think about 60 minutes on this one. Take that $$$$ to the fcvking bank ..!!! Go Drew ..!!!
Good luck to him, of course, but I really question the wisdom of this move for an American high school distance runner still far from world class times. I appreciate the desire to stick with a coach and situation that have worked very well for him, but there is no substitute for the structure, support, and atmosphere of a great college team like Oregon.
How can anybody get a 10 year deal in athletics? This kid (or any kid) could be done in 2 years, let alone 10. Look at German Fernandez. He's only 25 and has already been done for years...if he had signed a 10 year contract at age 18, he'd still have years left on it. I have to believe that there must be massive potential reductions here.
Well ..I do know a few things.. Much less than the first proposal from Wetmore. Hunters aren't foolish

The question is he getting $ dollars or $$$ dollars. College coaches get a lot of heat but there is a lot to be said for racing for a couple of years in competitive races with some pressure (sure NCAA don't really matter but compared to some B heat, they are like the olympics). Of course there is a lot to be said for staying with a program that works for you (not saying that any program is bad but sometimes they aren't good fits).
And of course what happens if he turns into a major stud over the next 5 years (say 3:46 mile, 12:50 5k type runner). Is he screwed by having a contract that covers most of his prime?
I didn't think he was going to go pro although as far as who he signed with I am not at all surprised. He has been wearing and running in adidas for a while now in regards to his spikes, shorts, and SWHP singlet.
