What the hell kind of bs track doesn't have a mile start line? That was a training session, no a race. Plus, that video was posted in Dec 2015. Hand timed by the guy with the beard. Spence has impressive flexibility. But that my friend is not a sub 5 mile race. It's a sub 5 training run.

That sub-5 is close to his marathon pace in his prime. Gives a good benchmark for later years.
At 59, at this point I can run 5:20s without speedwork; Hopefully I can drop that a bit for next year. My best ever marathon was 6:00 pace, I'm still well clear of that.

what's impressive to me at age 56 is the streak itself - not having an injury or other break that prevented him from staying that fit. it takes so long to heal anymore, it doesn't take much to lose a year.
Doesn't being able to cross off a year in January, then the in December of the NEXT year allow you to be injured for nearly 2 years, then continue the streak?
