What???? That's a 27 second difference!!! Amazingly enough, 26:44 is also 27 seconds SLOWER than the 10k WR of 26:17. Ergo, 26:17 makes Rupp's 26:44 look like a cakewalk.

Well, I don't think too many people really think Rupp couldn't breeze through 2:07 or better at one of those fast marathons. He just sub split by two minutes while the weather was getting unbearable and he let of the gas during the last mile plus.
My impression from the broadcast was that Meb kept running in to Rupp, who was basically running straight ahead but not running over anyone.
Of course both runners were aiming to get the same place, that same objective always happens in races and people need to adjust.
However, I'd like to see some evidence, photos or a video that shows Rupp was clipping or running any closer to Meb than Meb was to Rupp.
My impression from the video was that Meb was totally out of line, Cragg was embarrassed for him, and Rupp was quite professional. I'm impressed with his run, and with his and Salazar's interviews afterwards.

Meb's accomplishments are real. Rupp's 2:07 or better is not real until he does it. Do you understand the difference between reality and fantasy?
The reality is that Meb would have won if Rupp hadn't been there.
However Rupp was there, running his first marathon ever, and beat him easily.
This. And based on this debut and the 20-miler he did, I can anticipate him being the GOAT of the America in the future.

2:11 in the heat and with plenty of gas in the tank, 2:07 is definitely within his reach. The question should be whether he can break the AR.

Cragg was not embarrassed for Meb. She found it funny, as did everyone on the panel and a good deal of the media in the room, because very few people like Rupp. Whether he dopes or not is up for debate, but the other elites think he does, so he is not a well liked person on the circuit. It's pretty obvious. If the same situation happened with, say, Ritzenhein, Meb wouldn't have even acknowledged the question with a response.
I talked to Amy and she did say she was embarrassed for Meb, but that the vibe was all cool.

You sound just like the crackpots who said Rupp couldn't break 27 minutes. Well, no surprise he's gone under 26:50 twice, closing in on 26:40.
Or the crackpots who said he was guaranteed to blow up or dnf at the trials despite jogging a 61 minute half in Portland by himself on a less than fast course.
Do you know how many other marathon venues are MUCH faster than this course? That was an absolute disaster course in nasty marathon conditions, and Rupp didn't even stretch himself on pace save for a couple miles.
On a different note, when Rupp ran his debut half marathon in 60:40, didn't he actually tumble head over heels in that race? I thought I remembered seeing a video of that once.

All you have to do is watch the video. It's pretty clear. Meb kind of went off there and it wasn't too classy. He actually embarrassed himself and you can see it in his face afterwards.
I really like Meb, but he isn't a saint. I've seen him get irritated in races when he doesn't like what others are doing. He's used gestures like this before. Should Rupp have give a bit more space? Probably, but he is a track runner who runs against east Africans who clip the crap out of you, push you etc. They'll also put a gap on you without notice so you better be in position to react. Maybe Rupp will adjust to the roads with experience.
The thing you have to realize about Meb, is that he is a brand. He and his coach know it and they market it. He has a story and an image that he upholds, and it's a good story. That doesn't mean he's a saint.

Umm... Does anyone like Rupp?
I'm not sure whether I like Rupp or not. He can come off as a it awkward, but sometimes I think he is a bit shy rather than standoffish. Imagine running your first marathon and then walking into the press conference after a solid victory and immediately everybody laughs. I do like Meb and always will (I'm from San Diego and just a couple years younger), but he wasn't exactly the picture of grace here, a bit sh**t to criticize a future team member over fairly trivial, obviously unintentional stuff. I hope somebody explained to Rupp why they were laughing afterwards, if they left him to watch videos on the internet and connect the dots himself that's just b**lsh*t.
