I am glad that PTSD Ronnie got the coach he wanted so Michigan can continue his streak of domination by WIsconsin. Gibby made up more of a gap than Ronnie did in years

That was a great day up there and I'm glad you enjoyed it too. I just love going to meets, especially near home at GVSU.
I agree totally that we should enjoy this while it lasts as it won't happen again for a long time.

Yes it's bizarre to compare the 2. But one big part of the post was to reemphasize a point we always make/bemoan about running - there is a fascination about the 'next great thing' instead of appreciation for the current great thing.
The idea that Fisher may not be the best in is state is borderline absurd but also fascinating at the same time. Me falling for clck bait is good for business. Generally if I think it's interesting, others do as well.
As for me running. does 2.5 miles total count with a 30 minute break in the middle. 1.25 miles to dog park, dog plays, we return home.
Interesting, yes. But then to read the extrapolation on these high school kids gets pretty absurd. Guys are writing about Fisher's left arm movement and predicting he will run 12:50 in the 5K when he's done... Ok, just let them develop and see what happens. Seen it with Deak, Sage, and a hundred others on here.
Also on this site, there is a fascination with being the guy who 'called' it. Once in awhile someone gets the a call right when Ybedis Geberbekele wins the Singapore Marathon and they were included in a pre-'thon analysis. I mean a broken clock is correct 2x a day..

Brazier looks very easy, a big easy stride, just needing to straighten out his footplant, which as was pointed out goes way across his middle, and he has plenty of room for aerobic development. He will be a monster in college. Wetzel is all over the place with his arms and torso, which should be easily correctable in college with ab work, weights, and form drills. Fisher is super-efficient with a very tight arm carriage, very short arm swing, and a lower ceiling at 1500m/mile than Brazier, it seems to me, but a great future at higher distances, 5000m-10000m, as his mileage builds. As for Brazier, he'll have to do the work and stay healthy to realize that future, so who knows? But at 1:48 already, if he adds aerobic work, he'll be impressive.

Yes, it counts! It's the kind of workout my daughter's high school coach gives the distance runners. You'll be breaking 6 in the mile if you continue.

1) Grant is the best distance runner, but some would say 1:48-mid speaks louder than 4:02, it might be higher up on the all-time list, and is much closer to the HS record
2) Grant is a miler, Brazier isn't, Brazier almost beat him at his own event

Grant is by far the best 2 miler and CC high school runner in the country. The mile is a middle distance race and he's still the best, but not "by far".800 meters is not even a middle distance race...2 laps on a track, give me a break. There are probably several runners in the USA more 'talented' than fisher. But that isn't the whole story for success. Dedication, discipline, durability, mental toughness in wkouts and definitely races, and just a general love of running. That stuff is harder to align than raw talent. I think lots of awesome high school runners can't make the leap, and I don't blame them.

Did you watch the video? He did not "almost beat him". Brazier was never really with him for most of the race and never made contact or threatened him at all. Also this was on a very clean run on a 300 meter track. Brazier is obviously a great talent. He's superlative in the 800, and quite good at the mile, but Fisher outclassed him in this race as he has consistently done with practically every other high school kid in race after race.
This was the first time I saw Wetzel or Brazier run, I have seen Grant Fisher about 5 times.
First if all, to the poster who said he almost beat Grant? Really? In what world is that? Did you see the video, Fisher controls the race the whole last 880 winning easily.
These guys could race 100 times right now while in HS and Fisher would win 100 times.
Brazier looks like a Monster prospect and Wetzel will thrive at Villanova with the group they have now, but they will not beat Fisher at a mile this year.
I saw this race, Brazier was the most talented athlete in the competition - no question. His talent is raw and undeveloped. Curious about his quarter speed.
I've seen him run elsewhere, last year. He could be a sub-3:55 miler. My feeling is that Fisher's future is in the 5k, not the mile...assuming he can handle the training.
