TCU and Baylor out! Ohio State in!

Fair enough. Then my gripe is with the idiots on the playoff committee who told the Big 12 chair that they got punished for not having a conference title game.

Working out well? You're obviously not from Baylor or TCU.

reduce D1 football conferences to 8

(merge the mid majors, big 5 won't go for it I know)

each conference must have 2 divisions

(north south, green blue, A B, whomever whatever)

each division has a champion

(yields a pool of 16)

Conference championship game required

(reduces the field to 8)

Regional quarter final games

(2 games east and 2 games west of the Mississippi River)

Semi finals

(again east coast- west coast split)

Championship game

No freakin' polls needed

Aint gonna happen. Too many millions tied up with those conferences and the current system. It takes baby steps to make the transition which is why it's taken this long just to get a four team playoff.

The committee got it right.

1) Wejo, who cares that OSU barely beat Penn State? Baylor barely beat a 2-7 Texas Tech team.

2) AND...TCU barely beat West Virginia and Kansas.

3) Buckeyes played an EXTRA GAME. 12-1 is better than 11-1.

4) Anyone who doesn't know that KH went to Ohio State wouldn't care about the playoffs.

5) Drawing a name out of a hat is ridiculous. One team has 12 wins, Two teams have 11 wins. One team is the conference champion while the other two have to share. 59-0 over a 13th ranked team is huge. Dominance. If OSU's quarterback played poorly, Baylor would be in, but he threw three TDs with no INTs and was the game MVP. 3rd string QB apparently not an issue.

6) Goldy, TCU waxed a WINLESS Iowa State team and beat a 5-4 Texas team their last two games. Ohio State beat #13 59-0; a team with the #2 defense in the nation too, holding the best running back in the country to under 80 yards. That is why OSU jumped over them, and rightfully so.

It is perfectly right 1-4 too. Alabama should beat Ohio State, and Oregon should beat Florida State. Alabama would wax TCU, and they would beat Baylor.

Big 10 played only 8 conference games and then a title game so nine conference games total. Big 12 played 9 conference games in the regular season.

So which game on the Ohio State schedule is the EXTRA GAME of which you speak?

Navy? Kent State? Cincinnati? Or the game they lost to mighty Virginia Tech?

I would agree they likely shouldn't have been punished for not playing a title game. However, there will ALWAYS be someone on the outside looking in. Look at the NCAA basketball tournament, teams complain about not being included into a 68 team bracket. That debate is great for the sport. Expanding the playoff will do nothing for the debate as the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th teams will argue, but it will dilute the regular season and include teams who dont deserve to be there. If Baylor wouldn't have lost to a pretty poor West Virginia team they would be in. If TCU wouldn't have blown a 21 point 4th quarter lead to Baylor, they would be in. Everyone got a fair shot at it. We're left with 4 good teams and some pretty good matchups.

What a bunch of whiny losers. It was made clear, over a year ago, that credit would be given to the winners of conference playoffs. The Whiny Big 12 folks thought they'd take the easy way out and have co-champions (what a joke that it), schedule cupcake OOC games and weasel their way in. OSU did it by winning 12 games, blowing out Wisky in the conference championship game and by playing a quality OOC schedule. TCU and Baylor are paying the price for being part of a conference that tried to game the system. I'm satisfied that OSU is as good as Baylor and TCU, AND they followed the rules, putting themselves at risk in the conference championship game. The system worked, and TCU and Baylor will get a chance to get their butts kicked in bowl games.

Everyone who is complaining that TCU got dropped from #3 to #6 after a win is really making themselves look stupid.

You guys do realize that the same committee that you are complaining about now ranking them #6 is the one that had them at #3 in the first place.

We could just as easily complain that TCU was ranked #3 last week despite having lost to Baylor, etc etc.

Only the final rankings matter. All earlier ranking were based on an incomplete season (which favored TCU since all their important victories were earlier in the year).

In fact, it's pretty obvious that the earlier releases of the rankings were only done so that ESPN could have a 30 minute show every week and to get their pundits something to talk about on their many, many debate shows.

So.... go ahead and state your case that TCU should be in the playoff over Ohio State and Baylor but do NOT use the argument that they should be in because they were ranked #3 by the committee last week, that is completely immaterial.

I bailed on all that nonsense years ago. If I am going to watch a sports event, I like it to be a fair competitive battle. Nationally televised football and basketball hasn't fallen into that category in years.

I would disagree. Some teams are allowed to lose a game. Others aren't. Alabama might've even been allowed in with two losses. LSU was put in the BCS title game with 2 losses just a few years ago. And what do you do when you have five undefeated teams or six teams all with one loss? Whose loss is less significant?

Four teams is too few. TCU and Baylor had legitimate potential to compete for the title, just like the 4 teams that were selected. Yes, they should've taken care of their own business and gone undefeated, but only 1 team in all of college football did so (FSU) and there was even talk that they might get downgraded to the 5 spot and out of the playoffs.

As one poster stated, a rule should be only one cupcake per year for any team that wants to play in the playoffs.

Can someone please ELI5 why there's a selection committee? Why have any subjectivity?

How do you know 5 or more years out when the schedules are made who Will be up or down? LSU had Ole Miss over for homecoming- who saw that coming?

Cupcakes are NOT teams that play in a major conference. Cupcakes are FCS teams.

Lines for a game are only indications of the teams playing on that day, not the league they represent. More importantly, no one thought Minnesota was good at the time. Minnesota was picked to finish near the bottom of the Big 10 during the preseason. ESPN power rankings had Minnesota as 10th in the league during the pre-season.
