Alex's struggle kind of reminded me of Danielle Tauro at FL regionals in 2006. The cause in her case was rhabdomyolysis, which can be pretty serious. Alexa may want to rule that out . . . .

unfortunately there is no reason to be even cautiously optimistic for those two.
Compare this with Cain at the USA 5k this year: Cain finished in 5th (15:53.04) 21 seconds behind Emily Infeld.
Efraimson (despite collapsing at the end) finished in 9th (16:08) 26 seconds behind Infeld.
The difference between the two is that Cain has slightly more talent, but gives the impression she sees running as about being "fast". In contrast Efraimson has the competitive fire to win.
Perhaps Alexa will be running in Boston (against Cain) at the end of January?

They're still young, that's gotta count for something right? With the talent that they've been able to briefly show...I'd be rad to see some sort of comeback/relevance in the running world.

Ben St. Lawrence was a top high school talent who basically put running on the back burner for six years and put on a bunch of weight before getting serious again.
You can add several athletes who came back after extended maternity leaves.

Also Carlos Lopes, silver in 10k behind Viren in 1976...bunch of down years then ran 27:17 10k in 1983 and then won 1984 LA games in 1984.

hmmm I don't know much about Viren's non-OG years. So possibly a good example, except again, you have to look to guys with twice in a generation type talent to find someone who came back from mediocrity.

Not superb, but pretty good.certainly not mediocre like Wheating and German have been.
