Dressel outsprints Maton and Anderson after they agreed to finish together

Congrats on being a former pro, big man!

We are 4 pages into this debate and the only thing decided is that Dressel will be hearing about this for a long time.

It will be come a verb: "I was home from college and racing my friend at the turkey trot when that MF totally Dressled me for the win and got the pumpkin pie"

I heard Jenkins and Ches talked about finishing together before ncaas, but Ches totally sprinted off and won the race. What a douche.

To dressel is to engage championship tactics during exhibition races.

Here's the issue...Nike spent a lot of money this year and every year contesting the Border Clash. The last thing we need is collusion amongst high school boys or girls as to the outcome.

if you're not there to race and win, do everyone a favor and just take a pass if Foot Locker, NXN or your health is your priority. Total BS that we should even think about tuning in if "we're going to cruise across the line" and flash some kind of signal to the masses. This ain't the NCAA where tempo runs have become the norm. Ever go to a big NCAA home meet, really looking forward to some real grit and all you get is err race simulation, controlled efforts? Heck, if we wanted to see a workout, we could watch any multitude of workout's on Wednesday, not on a prime time Saturday slot with helicopters overhead, real announcers that expect an honest effort and thousands expecting a clash, not the end of your 84 mile week cool down.

And lastly, if you're going to collude on the outcome, make sure the plan is in place, before the race, not during the last half mile of so. If you do, you deserved to be kicked on.

There would have to be a runner from another team involved to make it similar. That is why it is so weird.

It is a much better outcome that they raced to the finish. Three guys coming in together putting up the O and W hand gestures would be pretty silly. It would devalue the meet to spectators and other runners. Teammates do that when they finish together and win, not working with your competition. There are probably other runners who actually value winning the meet and these three would have basically showed they don't care.

Who cares about the money that Nike spent? Are you saying that the race would have been better if the best guy from Oregon and the best guy from Washington didn't show up so that Dressel could run all by himself to get the win?

Why are people implying that there was a pre race plan that would have screwed Dressel?

Btw, the best posts have been the new ones that use his name as a verb. It's like getting Munson'd.

This thread has devolved into useless arguing. I think that Dressel had every right to do what he did but he was a bit of an ass about how he did it. If he just wanted to race then he should have told Maton and Anderson before the race that he wasn't going to participate. Tricking them into thinking the plan was still on was not cool.

You seem to be missing the fact that they sprung this idea on Dressel AFTER he had fallen early on, caught them, and was still poised to beat them. This was never a pre-race plan that Dressel was let it on.

Dressel races like Lindgren, which is to say a bit crazy, and brings serious pain to his competitors. You think Anderson or Maton wanted any part of beating him the way Anderson had to earlier this season. That was probably the most painful race Anderson has ever won. If you race Dressel you have to be prepared to suffer like a dog for the win and they simply weren't.

I think that Dressel carried some ire in his gut after getting drilled by Anderson at State, and when he saw the finish line just said "F--- It!" and cranked it home. He gets his little piece of pie while Anderson and Maton are like "Who cares, the real race(s) are a few weeks away." No biggie, but if Dressel doesn't do well at FL he will definitely not be living this down soon.

So the Trifecta would be to "Kip" the course, "Dressel" the finish, and then "Benabadd" the mascot. Bonus points if you manage to "Lagat" the drug test.

Ok we get it you guys are friends but it's disingenuous to everyone else running their hardest for their state and even for Nike who sponsored it to treat it like a joke. They all seem like nice kids, but apparently they are a bit too nice, and lose sight of the point of it all.

Actually you are losing sight of the races that mean something. Nobody cares about the exhibition race Nike throws money at. The meets that count are before (state meets) and after (FLN and NXN). Why does it matter to you whether the top guys run together or not? I'm quite sure Dressel and Maton will both throw it down tomorrow when it actually counts.
