That thread got deleted for some reason. Not sure why, threads about Bill Cosby are here but threads about actual running get deleted. Weird.
I posted this video of the finish in the other thread moments before it was deleted. Maybe it was my fault.
I was at the meet about 200m before the final straightway and you could hear some chatter between them and Maton was looking back to the chase back. It was clear that they were just cruising it in together but Dressel must have been plotting his surprise move.

That's awkward... I like how he pretty much admits to that in the interview haha.
While I am excited that he will be a Buff, I hope he doesn't do that to his teammates
here's an interview with Anderson/Maton about the race, skip to 1:15. they seemed pretty cool about it
The true facts are that Anderson and Maton were plotting against Dressel pre-race for Maton to take the win and Dressel got wind of it! All this media frenzy bashing Dressel when he was the guy being plotted against! Then they start talking to all the media about how Dressel low balled them. Are you kidding me! Let's get the facts straight here...
So the race was fixed? I don't get it... Why are kids not trying to win this race?
Doesn't matter. Jesse Reiser will darkhorse footlocker this year. Most underrated prep in the nation and I'm willing to bet on ATLEAST a top 3 finish. Kid has more heart than any prep distance runner in the United States.

John finished stride for stride in 2013 with Joe Hardy and another guy when they finished in a similarly controlled effort. He wanted to come away with the win this time.
Check out 1:25 of this BorderClash highlight video
http://www.runnerspace.com/video.php?video_id=77357Race: a competition between runners, horses, vehicles, boats, etc., to see which is the fastest in covering a set course.
The other guys fvcked up the moment they tried to turn it into something else.

I've never seen Dressel to be for himself! Obviously you've never met him. He was absolutely not "butt hurt" about the state meet. The only ones being dishonest were Anderson and Maton who plotted against him! Dressel was almost last from falling at the start and worked hard to get up to the front on the narrow course. He ran a hell of a race and was there to race and absolutely deserved the win! Karma got Anderson and Maton...
"He ran a hell of a race"
That's such a naive way of looking at it. Obviously Anderson and Maton weren't taking it as a real race so that doesn't make Dressel's win anything significant. The other two said they hit 85 mile weeks and this was a glorified tempo run for them. Borderclash has traditionally been a meet where the Washington guys pack up and save a little bit of energy for nationals. Maton put a lot of effort into winning it last year and that may or may not have negatively affected him at Foot Locker. So maybe he learned from that and chilled it this year. And no I don't think it was that dumb of Dressel to work on his kick, but he should have told the other two that he was gonna kick. The other 2 believed he was going to coast it in with them, so it really isn't an authentic or worthwhile victory because he didn't tell them that. If nothing had been discussed during the race I would have no minor qualm with him doing that.
Wow, what a weird thing to do if they agreed on it...

A race is a race.
Dressel won the race.
The two other guys after racing for the majority of the race may have been discussing not to race to the finish. That is their prerogative but in so doing they diminished the event for themselves and others that came to race and watch a show down of 3 of the top high school XC runners in the nation. Apart from about 400 m near the end of the race, they were racing. The final straight was a race otherwise the two runners behind Dressel would have cruised in which they didn't.

Yes, strange that it was taken down.
I think 2 runners should be ashamed.
If you lose a race, in a race, don't make excuses about deciding to cruise in after racing the majority of the race. Just do it and lose and go home quietly.
Dressel wanted no part of it as it didn't benefit him. Perhaps two runners were more concerned about protecting their rankings going into two different national championships? Now Maton and Dressel have lost once and Anderson has lost twice during the season. Guess that changes the rankings now doesn't it?
This discussion is silly. This should be a meaningless race for 3 guys aiming for a national title in a couple weeks. It means nothing, Whether somebody kicked or not I am sure none of them were actually racing.

Prepping for college.
The two cheaters, Maton and Anderson, should be penalized for attempting to rig a race.
Why do these HS kids race so much!! These guys have been going almost weekly (or more) since August.

What the hell? Dressel admits to taking advantage of their plan to finish together in his interview. At the finish, Anderson flashed the Washington on his jersey, therefore showing that he was sticking to the plan.
