You and bunkered archie sound a lot like masters runner SoCal Cush, who makes no bones about his dislike of Lagat. Cush's masters records will be vaporized by Lagat, and not just by a second or two.

He is not running the half marathon at the Philly Half. He's running the 5k.

So it would have been hard to read the mind of the first poster and gather he was making that error.

And the alleged insight into what Lagat has been training for all summer is sadly lacking.

In fact, he has said he will try again for the road 5K American record, which he lost on a course mis-marking at Carlsbad.

Everything about his performances point to his age being accurate.

Everything about his performances point to his age being accurate.

Hey Capt. Kangaroo, You were already on life support when you completely misread that earlier post and kept defending yourself (assuming by now you've reread it VERY slowly & realize your mistake). Now…you are claiming there is no reason for Lagat's age to be off???….There are a gazzillion reasons for a guy born over 40 yrs. ago in Africa to have his age be off. I have multiple adopted children from Ethiopia & have no faith that their stated birthrates are accurate. And they were born in the last 10 yrs. And what the heck does "everything about his performances point to his age being accurate" mean? In 500 words or less.

It gets a little hard finding results for Lagat before 1999, but still that is 15 years of running world class times. Even if he graduated college at a normal age, that would make him 36-37 at the youngest.

Your experience with adopting Ethiopian children has no bearing on Lagat's age. Africa is not a country.

His career progression and decline is exactly what one expects relative to the way the human body develops and ages.

He developed and peaked in his late 20s just like the majority of runners.

Always found it amazing that his sister Mary Chepkemboi won the African champs in 1984, Commonwealths in 1982, and there are pictures of her competing in Japan in 1981... 33 years ago. And his brother Robert Cheseret, according to his certificate, was BORN in 1983...

According to this, their family isn't really sure of Mary's age:

"In July, Mary will be 40 or 42. Her parents give her birth date as 1966. She says it was 1968."

Maybe never again, but head to head the score according to tilastapaja is Lagat 20, Rupp 2, with one of Rupp's victories being when Lagat was a DNF.

So in races that they've finished, Rupp's only victory Lagat is at the 2012 Trials 5000.
