Some of these morons who know nothing about track on here (ahem, ventolin, ahem), specifically the 1500 event, can never grasp that raw times in the 1500 are far from the only factor to evaluating where an athlete is. Mile races are often tactical, slow races, as I said before and didn't really need to say to anyone who is remotely educated on this sport.

Some of Aregawi's most impressive races have been tactical, slow pace, showdowns that resulted in slower times.

One thing that is more telling is that she has won 18 consecutive 1500's (23 if you include indoor races). Including 7 straight victories over Dibaba. (Dibaba has only beaten Aregawi once, in their first race in 2012)

I don't think there's any debating that he's the best post-Guerrouj miler. If he takes his world records, and wins a few more golds, you may be able to put Asbel in the GOAT discussion. Its pretty hard to overcome Guerrouj's insane list of sub 3:30 1500s though.

Fair enough. Still, like I said, I hadn't followed the sport for several years, so I felt a bit out of touch with the current crop of runners when diving back into track and field.

That's probably because he was doped to the eyeballs, like the other leading middle and distance runners in his era. No EPO test.

ELG was probably a natural 3:29 guy who managed torun 3 secs faster due to peds. The number of near world record marks week in week out is the most telling sign.

I believe your earlier post about Kiprop being maxed out sparked this whole cat fight. As a side note, if you're so confident in the logic of your reasoning you shouldn't have to resort to insults to back it up. Getting emotional usually means you lost the debate. I made the case that the women's milers have a lot more room to go, posted evidence, I posted evidence of Qu's progression. Still haven't seen anyone try to refute it.

Again, I hope I'm wrong about Kiprop, would love to see him break the record, but it's a different comparison.

Bottom line Men's 1500 ceiling has very little room, whereas women's 1500 has enormous room.

I explained it. The men's mile event has been historically strong. There has been very fast runners throughout each era, incrementally lowering the record. I'm not saying it can't be improved, but it will be incremental, because the event is maxed out.

Women milers, by contrast, have lagged behind in terms of talent respective to the event. If the Chinese times, which are considered suspect, were thrown out the world record in the W1500 would be 3:52 from 1980.
