In interviews, Coach Miltenberg always talks about his individualized training programs. He is a good coach whose former team won nationals. I think you have to assume he would be willing to tailor the program to a top athlete like Cayla, so long as there was a valid reason for any differences from the standard practices. Why would any coach with half a brain risk ruining such a star?
That said, I don't know the girl, but some top kids come in to college with an entitled attitude, thinking they should call the shots on schedule etc.. Some of them did that in high school because they were the darlings. And some had private coaches or were coached by mom/dad and so were used to being the center of a personal coaching universe. That is not going to be replicated at a top ranked, Div. 1 university. XC is a team sport, and everyone else was a former high school standout too. There has to be a boss and the coach is it. If you can't live with that, then you need to leave. Some kids leave.
