San Diego meet - Uceny, Anna Pierce, van Dalen, Reid

Its great that Piece has the A standard and all but she wont even be top five at the trials. She has consistently lost to Uceny, Simpson, Rowburry, Schmidt, Anderson. I'd be impressed if she even made it through the second round

Whatever happens at the trials, some good runners are going to be staying home in the women's 1500.

She must have walked through the FAT camera after cheering them on the last 100m. Not sure why they didn't put down DNF for her in the handwritten results. Results would still be valid right? It's not like a golf scorecard where it has to be accurate?

Was there as well. Great race to watch. They held off the start time because of a decent breeze blowing into the homestretch. It had lessened by the start(8:30ish). but was still blowing. I thought it might be the difference in them not getting the standard. Not sure, but think they split 62/63 and then slowed to 2:09 @ 800. When they came through in 2:09, it seemed like the mark was starting to slip out of reach, but they ran an honest 3rd 400 and closed very well. That track is fast. Sits in a bowl and is sheltered from the ocean breeze to an extent.

The leaders split 65, 65, 66 and closed with enough speed to just reach under 4:06. Conditions were nearly ideal with only a slight breeze. Pierce looked like she struggled a little in the final lap but hung on for the time she needed. The US are really deep right now at 1500, so the Trials should be exciting!

Pierce looked completely spent after her race at Oxy so it sounds like she is making strides this year but is not back to her former self quite yet.

Amazing how hard van Dalen closed. Lost a lot of ground on the two leaders between 200-100m and came around Reid at 150m to close on Pierce. Her PR has gone from 4:11 last week to 4:08 on Saturday to 4:05 to make the NZ Olympic team yesterday.

I got a message today that there was some confusing information on Lets Run so I came on to hopefully clear some things up.

This race came about because Anna Pierce wanted to hit the "A" Standard before the trials and has a willing training partner, Morgan Uceny, to help her accomplish. Word gets out in a small running community and the race expanded to six ladies. The Summer Nights Series is a series of four "all-comers" type meets run in San Diego. This is why there are no formal results that come out quickly because there is no pre-registration, just a few hundred day of race entries. The series of races does offer some small prizes for the local runners and the results usually take a couple of days to sort out for the series points. However, here are the results of the race:

Morgan Uceny rabbited until 400 remaining. She was listed by accident in the initial results because a time was given when the camera shut off and assigned to her. She was officially a dnf and this is in the official results. The hand written results posted on this site were done as a favor to one of the runner's camps so that they could get them immediately.

Here are the only other results from the meet that have any type of "national" following, everything else would qualify as San Diego local.

Do you know under the IAAF rules, if there is a timing malfunction the results are not valid for Championships. When the clock stopped at 4:02 and the girls weren't finished makes the times ineligible for qualifying purposes. The discussion will be taken into the USATF and there will be an appeal process.

RULE 165

TIMING

(c) If the fully automatic timing device is not started automatically in accordance

with subparagraph (a), the image should so indicate automatically.

In such case, the times recorded on the image will not, under any circumstances,

be considered official. The image may, however, be used as a valid

support to determine placings and to adjust time intervals between runners.

Regarding the on field clock. This is not part of the 'fully automatic timing system'. It is an extra piece of equipment which does not influence the timing system. You will find that the clock often malfunctions on the field or has problems as it is not a 'native' part of the of the timing system.

Results still completely valid, stop hating

I guess Uceny would rather pace the white Canadians and Australians than the American Brenda Martinez.

I was there reading splits at the 200! The race was pretty dang EPIC! Those ladies ran awesome and threw down!
