14 blood tests carried out by the IAAF in 2010, out of competition. (This is around the world, so probably at the most 5 in Kenya.)

How are you suggesting these Kenyan athletes are going to get caught, particularly as drug testing is already unreliable and becomes completely so when they don't even bother.

Who cares about 'doping tradition' where there's money to be earned, there are people who get that money fraudulently.

Do you honestly believe that someone can pretend to be an agent and buy EPO in the high street if there wasn't a market for it?

You have an over-romanticised view of these athletes. When there's money to be earned, and absolutely zero regulation, people ARE going to break the rules. They know getting caught is impossible.

I never said all the agents are corrupt, but come on, there's $$$ up for grabs and the chances of getting caught when you take the minimum of care are zero. Let's get into the real world now.

Their cricket team is essentially amateur, I would imagine same goes for women's volleyball. Rugby 7s they're a reasonable side, but it's a bit of a novelty sport.

Kenyans are not hiding, they are willing to be tested anytime, anywhere, anyhow.

January-December 2010, The number to the right is the corresponding number of tets for each athlete.

Kenyans were the most tested of all countries axcept maybe the US.

This is testing in general, I do not know how many blood tests were done but this shows that Kenyans are available to be tested contrary to some believe that they cannot be found.

None of the athletes uncovered in the BALCO affair were ever busted. I don't find the "no one's been busted so they must be clean" argument at all persuasive. If busted athletes are the only ones using anything illegal we'd have a very insignificant drug problem in sports.

And Kenyans are all poor? So some guy who wins $10,000 with a minor placing in a marathon is too poor to buy something that might win him twenty times that in his next race? Agents are also too poor?

Now I explain again, for people like Trollism (who of course doesn't care about my explanation), because I DON'T BELIEVE DOPING CAN WORK WITH THE TOP AFRICAN RUNNERS.

As you said, there is no proof doping not work. But, for people chosing to dope for enhancing their performances, there is no proof that, increasing their training and bettering their training, they cant reach the same results.

At first, I don't train athletes for money. I'm not connected with one management in particular : I coach athletes from Gianni Demadonna, Jos Hermens, Gerard, Posso, Zane Branson and small managers asking to be aided. Shaheen was with Ricky Simms. So, don't think I can be involved in strategies looking for money.

I look for producing results. This is my passion, and I was lucky putting together passion and profession. Who looks at money wants to change his life becoming rich, may be for his family. I don't have sons, so I don't have this type of problems. For me and my wife what we have is enough. We enjoy the life we do, that's all, and we don't need to have more money (for what ?), and to cheat for having it.

This for explaining always my goal was to obtain results in order to have the satisfaction I could help athletes in their life.

For doing this, from 2003 (I resigned as Italian Technical Scientific Director at the end of 2002) I spent the most part of time with Kenyans, in Kenya or in other Countries (several times in St. Moritz). So, I lived with them, because the camp was where I lived. I know their families, and go in their houses when in Kenya. FOR THESE ATHLETES I PUT MY HAND ON FIRE. If one of them could be positive for something as EPO, steroids or GH, I GO TO QUIT IMMEDIATELY COACHING, because it means I'm no more able to recognise the persons, that always was my main quality.

After this, I'm completely sure that Shaheen (WR), Nicholas Kemboi (still n. 4 all time in 10000m with 26'30"), Florence Kiplagat, Moses Mosop, Abel Kirui, Silas Kiplagat and all the athlete I had that are in top 20 in the World were and are completely clean.

In some of these cases, they are the WR holder.

If I assume they are clean, and many of them are able to defeat other athletes, the oèptions are only as follows :;

1) They are the most talented athletes in the world, and I'm lucky all them come to me. The other, using doping, are very much less talented, so cant reach the same results

2) My training is by far better than any other type of training. Doping or not doping, nobody can compete with my training.

3) The talent of my athletes is as the talent of many other athlete in Kenya and Ethiopia ; my training is good but there are a lot of other good types of training in the World. So, THE ONLY EXPLANATION IS : ALL THE TOP ATHLETES IN THE WORLD ARE CLEAN or, if somebody is doped, DOPING DOESN'T WORK FOR THEM, BECAUSE ARE NOT BETTER THAN MINE THAT ARE CLEAN.

I read a lot of bullshits, and many of you don't understand that ALL the scientific researches for new medicine, created not for athletes, but for sick people, ARE MADE WITH SICK PEOPLE. When I read of the advantages of taking EPO connected with times in 10000m (between 40.0 and 1:10 of advantages), I cant not to laugh for this stupidity. I have 8 athletes between 26'30" and 26'55", do you think I can suppose they can run under 26' with EPO?

So, many of you live in a theorical world, knowing from books or practice with normal people what is possible to do with any kind of doping, BUT DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE REAL WORLD OF TOP AFRICAN RUNNERS.

It has been stated that Kenyan distance runners are the most tested runners. What is the percentage of out of competition testing that has been done vs. in competition testing. I have only heard of US and European cheats being caught in out of competition tests. Does anyone know?

What you don't seem to understand is that because of the work you do your opinions on this particular topic are seriously compromised. That is, you're going to say this sort of thing regardless of whether it's true or not.

That's not meant as an insult nor am I saying I think you're involved with doping your athletes. I'm saying that a coach, manager or athlete who is not involved with doping will naturally say they or their athletes are clean. But just as naturally, because of the negative consequences of being a known doper, a coach, manager, or athlete who is involved with doping will also say they're clean.

In this situation we have a German journalist who says he's found evidence of doping among Kenyan athletes. As some posters here have mentioned, the journalist has some interest in his findings. He didn't go all the way to Kenya on this story to not find anything. We should consider that when we read about his findings. But you also have a personal investment in this topic so the same consideration applies to your comments as to the journalist's. Few of us know either of you personally and therefore have no real way of deciding who seems more credible. You keep talking about people commenting on things about which they know little. Well, yes, that's sort of why these sorts of discussions crop up. We don't know and the people who claim to know are presenting us with conflicting information.

Ultimately, this is not about the journalist or you or really even the athletes. It's really about the governing bodies of the sport and whether we have faith in their honor and competence.

No one has yet posted any solid conclusive proof that Kenyans are doping. All we have seen is clap trap like "Everyone dopes so kenyans must also be doping". This is so pathetic its laughable.

BTW I notice that Hajo Seppelt'a allegations have not gotten any traction in Germany. It seems Germans also realize that Seppelt is a charlattan. He bases his whole thesis on the fact that he was able to buy EPO at one pharmacy in Kenya. Besides that he has no proof at all that any athletes have used EPO.

My guess is that Seppelt has seen his career decline so he is desperately looking for attention to revive his flagging career.

Also I notice that letsrun.com is the only place where Seppelt is being taken seriously. Its not surprising. This after all is one of the cesspools of the web where people come to say things they are too scared to say in public because they are utter aned complete nonesense.
