Post-Collegiate training groups

What is the best possible option for someone who has little to no money but has major ambitions in taking running to a whole new level?

I never said I didn't say intense. I said that a program didn't need to be "intense" to be hard. I guess I would view intense as too many workouts with too few recovery days. Too many workouts where you're going to the well or just barely hanging on to finish them and then working out again in two days on dead legs. Never having a chance to fully recover.

How about groups that don't give a lot of free stuff, but offer just a good group to train at a high level with? I can work part time and pay for my own housing and food, but some free gear, help with travel, and coaching would be nice.

My times are 67:30 for the half and 2:24 for the full. I know I'm not getting housing or sponsored with those kind of mediocre times. But I'd still like to train with a dedicated group and try and reach that next level; maybe hit an OT standard by 2016.

Groups like BAA and Stotan are your path. Does BAA offer coaching? Stupid question just dont really know.

Some of the best coaching is from the BAA both Mike Peroni and Terry Shea.

Except Stotan offers full Nike equipment packages for their better runners and some travel dough.

If you are not as fast as Shalane or Desi or Deena it is probably not in your best interest to contact those groups.

I've never met anyone from "New York New Jersey Track Club,"

their head coach would be familiar to some: Frank Gagliano.

They train at Rutgers.

I have no idea what the bennies are. Either of these organizations would be able to give a serious answer.

There was a Nike sponsored jumper in town last year. Job at the local high school, volunteer assistant coach at the university (get free access to all the training facilities), probably set up with the local network to get all the things you mention for cheap, but probably not free. I think she's taking time off from work or working part-time for the run-up to the Olympics.

Is that supposed to be an insult? First, both Stotan and BAA have people slower than me from what I'm seeing on their rosters. And for the record my half PR is better than all three of those women and my (debut) marathon is slower than Deena and Desi, but Desi's was at wind-aided Boston and Deena has the AR.

Not that being faster than the top US women is anything to be proud of, but just saying. I did state my times were mediocre.

The Greater Boston Track Club is for serious athletes who have been on colleges teams who want to see how good they can get in the context of a job or grad school. We have coaching and teammates and places to practice and limited sponsorship. What we do not have is a way to make money developing athletes with commercial value that we could sell to companies to help the change their image or promote their products. There is only a demand for a handful of runners nationally who can do that kind of work.

Our club is for runners who hold running as the most important recreational activity in their lives, but have jobs and families that come before. We want to win races and championships and win prize money and help our sponsors as an organization of serious running competitors.

Stotan has worked with Sudanese and Eritrean refugees, I think they'd work with international guys

Team Rogue elite is actually sponsored by Adidas now. From what I understand there are two teams, a local and national team each with different benefits. I believe they get gear and possibly a stipend. They have a set up similar to the Hansons where the Rogue elites work at the Rogue running store to make ends meet. No idea what their standards are.
