You wish you had the balls to run in tights alone. I run in tights alone when I do fast stuff (tempo/intervals) but I'm gifted in the genital arena so I'm not afraid to do that.

Also, I am pretty much done with running these days, but really hate the charity crap, and all of that. Ahh, thinking back to the days when beer companies were major sponsors, entry fees were $5 - $10, people raced to race, and not for some charity or run for xyz. I finished my running "career" doing trail races - no charity types there, mud and stream / river crossings in the winter keep the wusses away. After doing trail races for a few years, I did a local half marathon for training and to gauge my fitness. I was really turned off by the carnival atmosphere, fuel belts, head phones, Under Amour, fatties, cell phones, etc. If I do return to running it will be in difficult trail races and cross country races that keep the riff raff away.

What are you talking about? Those races are the hobby jogger paradise.

Once they conquered the marathon (finishing 2+ hours behind the winner), the tough hobby joggers compete in trail and ultra races.

Of course they never realize that the essence of athletics is running as fast as you can and place as high as you can, and even if they do they have no interest in doing so, which does not bother me.

What bothers me are those (many of them, unfortunately) who brag about their mediocre (to say the least) athletic performance.

I love these threads because everyone pissed is guilty of the offense they're pissed about. IPods, Compressions, hydration belts......

I'm going to go and run my next race in large headphones, an iPod, compression socks and sleeves, and a hydration belt JUST in the hopes that some letsrunner will see me and post a rant about it on this thread! hahaha Happy New Year Letsrunners!

Yep I'm going with hydration belt.

Unless you are running in extreme heat or 1 hour plus in the middle of nowhere you don't need to carry some water. I see plodders that clearly can't run more than 60min with them. Even more irritating (to me) is the fools that are running in parks/ tracks with drink fountains every few kms.

I'm also assuming a lot of the fatties wearing them are filling their bottles up with some "energy fluid". Judging by the size of them they aren't capable of running long or fast enough to expend more energy than they consume from the freaking drinks.

The thing that makes me annoyed is the people that have those beeping every step gps watches. I was doing a long run and I was passing this chick that was clearly 250+ pounds and she had one of those on while going at like 14 minute pace. Needless to say it got in my head and kinda bothered me.

These are not just for the safety of the runners wearing them, but also for the safety of drivers. Without reflective gear at night, runners and cyclists are almost invisible until the driver is close to hitting them... or potentially swerving into another car to avoid hitting them.

Rarely do the clothing/accessory choices of other runners annoy me. I'm too into my own run to really much notice what others wear/carry.

And really, if some "crutch" or other gets a person out and moving who needs to get out and move, I'd say have at it!

Hydration belts, especially the backpack styles, particularly when used during a 5k Turkey trot in upstate New York

Compression socks have been proven to not work during excersise, there is some evidence for post run. I live in Ft. sill, Oklahoma and still do not run with water in the summer.

How about the vibrams movement, "yeah, I ran 9 minutes yesterday and did some yoga, I am a real runner."

Not sure I get the iPod hate. Running 120+ mpw can get very boring (at least on the easy days). I can get through a shitload of podcasts while ticking off the miles, learning french or biostatistics or whatever at the same time. I agree, though, that they have no place in races.

whoever knocks bringing an ipod running has probably never run months of >100mpw alone at night in the winter when it mostly consists of 2-4 mile loops.

as was said somewhere else in the thread, if you need an ipod then you aren't doing it right (about to head out for an 18 miler consisting of 6 x 3mile loop)

Define hobby jogger? Unless you are sponsored and/or earn your living from running, everyone is a hobby jogger. Differences are just relative. The most annoying thing in all of running/cycling is running/cycling snobs. Best examples are any interactions had with you pricks in the store when I am just trying to buy a pair of shoes.

I think all the hate stems from the fact that there are a bunch of overly self-proud idiots who are pissed off because more and more people are now running/jogging/whatever/gof*ckyourself to stay or get healthy. Who cares if they use something that helps them? Why can't you just smile at them and be glad more people are doing the sport you love? You can defend almost all of these things. I used to never carry water, even on 15-18 milers ...but now realize that even when you drink a little water every mile for something as short as 4 or 5 miles quickens recovery. And music? Duh, it's much easier to run 530s when you have pissed off music screaming in your ears. You don't have to be some Buddha out meditating on your runs to the sound of you own hoofs hitting the pavement. I think the most annoying thing about "hobby joggers" is certain "hobby joggers" who think that their running is anything more than...a hobby. Go f*%k yourselves.

That freaking drives me nuts.....expensive gear, poor engine, poor handling skills and they want to ride inches from my wheel. I take pleasure in causing them great pain.

Their big mouth. I hate hearing them complain about the lack of finishers medals, lack of 'tech' shirts, lack of swag at the local $20 entry fee 5K. They enter one 'Rock and Roll' event and turn into a bunch of snobs.
