Forget the big "A" list names for a moment. Dale Dye, almost ALWAYS plays a military officer. You may not recognize the name, but you will remember his face. Here are a few of his roles:

Platoon- Capt Harris

Casualties of War- Capt Hill (classic scene with Michael J Fox about "looking for payback")

JFK- General Y

Saving Private Ryan- War Dept Col

Band of Brothers- Col Sink

John Wayne. He doesn't even have to go to wardrobe to get set to shoot. Same outfit every time. They just patch the bullet holes.

You know, this is true, and yet somehow, I still love every one. Clint Eastwood is terrific.

Dale Dye is a former Marine who runs a technical consulting firm in Hollywood. He's not really an actor but he gets small military roles through the relationship he has from consulting on the films.

Similar to R. Lee Ermey.

R Lee Ermey has done comedy, though

Ok John Wayne and Clint Eastwood are great examples of guys who can do the same role and always be amazing; however, they really did do much more than they are just known for. Humphrey Bogart actually had some serious range, but again is often remembered for some big classics that seem similar - Compare though African Queen to Casablanca (so different - both performances are among the best of all time). Another guy I mostly like but is often very similar is RDJ look at Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Due Date, and even A Scanner Darkly are all characters which are the same, but only at different levels of self absorbtion and drug addiction (ok Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is different a bit in that sense). Two more who are not as good, but play the same guy are Keanu Reeves and Johnny Depp
