Anyway, "who has the most nukes" doesn't mean shit, Uncle B. Thermonuclear weapons are so damn strong these days, something that fits in a briefcase will make Nagasaki and Hiroshima explosions look like Civil War muskets. Launching off even a few dozen ICBMs from the US, Russia, or China can essentially end the world as we know it. Sure, people will survive, but just that will render many parts of the world uninhabitable for generations or centuries. The US has or had THOUSANDS of weapons that strong. Russia, too. If we launch all we have, because we have the most, all life on Earth ends. Period.

I truly hope you mean that who has the most and the ability to deliver them is enough of a THREAT to prevent aggression from others. Nuclear weapons at this point are more of a defense, a deterrent, than an offensive weapon. You better hope that they never ever become offensive weapons again.

The post was in response to "so many countries have the bomb now". He was saying one bomb without the ability to deliver it is worthless. The amount of bombs also matters, even in doomsday scenarios: ya, it only takes a relatively small percentage of the US or Russia's bombs to end the world, but with an effective missile shield, you need multiple simultaneous ICBM's launched at once to get through. The reason the number of bombs matters is literally more bombs make the chance that several get through higher. (Even before ICBM's, the reason you needed so many nukes was because you needed to be able to assure your enemies that some of your bombers would get through if they attacked you).

You were correct that everything is based on the assured destruction factor; nuke us and, because of our ability to get many nukes over at once to wherever you are, we can assure you your immediate demise. To be considered such a threat, you need to be able to actually be able to come through if antagonized.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but, aside from grammatical errors, everything Uncle B has said in this thread up to this point is 100% correct.

There's so many possible ways that missile defenses can't detect. The easiest is to embed a spy that will set it off. Another is to place a short range missile aboard a ship with the warhead in a lead box, then fire the missile when in range.

The best deterrent is to 1) halt U.S. imperialism, zionism, and genocide across the globe, 2) end the 70 year long U.S. occupation of Palestine, 3) end the wars in Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, ..., 4) recognize full sovereignty of the local inhabitants of the Middle East countries, 5) stand down U.S. military bases, CIA opertations, State Department operations, nuclear weapons, and puppet regimes in Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
