Brooks Johnson has some words for Doug Logan

Brooks is definitely an interesting character. He coaches some very high quality athletes from time to time, ruins some athletes from time to time, and always has a coaching method that is on the verge of overly extreme.

I'm not sure what qualifies Brooks for the position he had in charge of high performance. I think removing him from the position he had in regards to relay development was a good idea. Disbanding some of the programs was probably not a good idea though. They just needed competent people administrating them to be successful.

Brooks' tact in his blog doesn't really give me the feeling that he should be directing anything.

In the end I feel like a lot of this is a product of the good ole boy system in USATF. The people that are running things are way out of touch at times, but since they were once very impressive names in the business they hold on to these roles because the people with the power to give these positions are also from the era when their names meant something in the sport.

In the end I think the best we can hope for is people like Brooks to grow old and retire and open up opportunities for a new generation of thought and leadership in USATF and track and field in our country on the whole. I get the feeling like there hasn't been anyone in the organization in years that can think outside of the box. Logan might have had a chance to think outside the box and establish new ideas in the organization, but he was never able to identify the right box. He was in box in Sears while USATF's box was in Walmart.

Lets go track and field.

Don't know about Logan but just about every person I know who was coached by Brooks dislikes him and thinks he wasn't a good coach.

And didn't the relay teams fail while he was supposed to be leading them?

Jeff Atkinson, David Frank, Patty Sue Plummer, Nancy Ditz, Matt Giusto all speak very highly of Brooks Johnson, even reverently, and they got results with him as their coach too. You guys are haters.

5 out of thousands. Not a great ratio.

He ruined far more than he succeeded with.

Look at the Stanford teams he coached. Compare their success with the recruiting classes he had. Not very impressive.

I noticed you didn't list his "successful" athletes that later tested positive.

Have you ever been ridiculed, in person, by Brooks?

Has he ever made you feel like shit just to put himself a little higher than you are?

Has he ever played the race card on you?

Has he ever tried to baffle you with bullshit to make you feel like a total tool?

Has he ever ignored you as an athlete because someone he perceives as having more "upside" just walked by?

Has anyone made more off the sport for doing "nothing"?
