Name HS runners who have gone sub9:00 3200m AND sub 1:50

3) Which is my ultimate point. 1:55 is nothing special for a sub9 guy, so bringing them up in a thread about guys with fast 2 mile times and blazing 800 times is really irrelevant. (No, it doesn't help that the OP's criteria was vague and inconsistent, but even in his expanded version, he said sub 1:51, so a 1:54 guy need not be mentioned)

1) Well, perhaps the majority CAN do it, but you said earlier that all of them could, and so I responded to that that NO, not all can or did. Scott Fry was all about fast times, and if he could have run faster than 1:57 in high school, he would have. The night he did that was perfect for running, and he had run a 4:10 1600 earlier in the day before being booted in the 3200.2) I'd say a smaller percentage can run a sub 1:55 than the 95% you are now saying (down from your original 100%). Certainly there are dudes out there who barely got under 9:00 (slower than Fry) who were equivalently as bad at the 800 as Fry was.3) I know you've heard my story...that's what makes mentioning it funny brother.4) This says Fry ran 4:08.03 for 1600m - http://www.ohsaa.org/sports/records/tfrecrd.htm

So it looks only two guys in the sub 9:00 and sub 1:50 range (I even gave an extra second for the 800m). I just thought with ALL THESE YEARS through track and field there would be AT LEAST 5. This goes to show you how hard it is to have GREAT endurance AND GREAT speed for high schoolers.

So based on these statistics, it looks like two guys will fit in this category EVERY 20-30 years. WHAT a hard combination!!

I gonna start a college thread which will include international athletes with these ranges but I needed some suggestions: Would you find a guy with sub 1:48 AND sub 14:00 5k? The reason I ask cause I would think most college coaches would keep a sub 1:48 guy from doing the 5k.

Yea but guys give some hard BUT realistic ranges using 800m, 1500m, mile, 3000m, 5k, and 10k. Probably easier to do the mile and 10k (Sub 4:03 AND sub 29:20)

Evan Jager. I saw him run the 3200 in sub 9 and then anchor his 4x8 team to get them to sectionals in 1:50. I am not sure if he actually broke 1:50 in the 800m run but that is pretty damn close. And his 3200m hs pr was in the 8:40s.

The bio of Jim Ryun on Wikipedia states "Today, over 40 years after he set them, Ryun still holds the American junior (19 and under) records at 880 yd (1:44.9), 800 m (1:44.3), 1,500 m (3:36.1), and two miles (8:25.1)"

Willis ran a 1:45 and 13:25 in college.

I agree with this.

Christian Wagner ran 8:50 (converted from 8:53 2 mile) and never ran faster than 1:57 in the open or a relay. He could not have run 1:55.

Some of the Junior records might have been set post-high school. Of course, when using the 3200 as the metric, a 9:02 would be a sub-9 3200 (and these were run on cinder tracks, not the faster surfaces of modern tracks.

I think Ryun ran his 9:02 as a junior on a cinder track; until his senior year he ran everything from the 220 to the 2-mile. The 2-mile was rarely run back in the mid-60s, but w/o a doubt, Ryan in his senior year could have run at least 8:45 is a serious race.

I know for a fact that Ryun ran 9:08 for 2M on the course in Wamego, Kansas.

I know because my junior year I was pretty fit and full of myself, and I'd set one course record earlier in the week. I asked my coach what the course record was for our upcoming race in Wamego. He looked it up and said, "9:08". I just looked at him. He smiled and said, "Jim Ryun."

I scrapped any thoughts of a course record.

Wouldn't Sully have had the equivalents in Grade 12?

Did Jim White of York (Ill) ever run under 9:00?

I recall that Jim White ran a sub-1:50 in the 4 x 800m. However, according to the list below, his open 800m was 1:50 and change.
