Why do people think it's strange to be single and not married but ok to be divorced?

100% correct! Not all are miserable, but most.

I think being married would be great.

There is a skill and it takes a certain kind of person to live the single life and enjoy it. It's easier to just find that one person who will marry you, settle for that occassional boring sex, and not have to worry about getting up the courage to ask out that smokin hot blonde sitting at the end of the bar.

My wife will not allow our small children to be in a room unattended with a single man over age 30.

This may not be fair, but there is a stigma of pedophilia with that demographic.

This is true. Being single can be a lot of freaking work sometimes. After a while it's just not worth it.

Dude, 23 is not that old to not be married. Average age of first marriage in the USA is 27. And if you are thinking of "settling" with someone you don't really love, just go down to your local law school and audit a family law class (that is divorce class, in case you were misled by one of contemporary society's cruelest euphemisms). That will easily cure of any such foolish desire.

If you felt this way when you were only 23, obviously you were living a loser's life. So, it's probably good that you did get married before you did something stupid and hurt yourself.

It's why people with kids ask couples without them when they are having kids. of course this is right after they go on about how crazy their lives because of their kids and tell you how lucky you are to not have kids.

My girlfriend and I don't want kids. With me it's a deal breaker. I'd rather be single for life, but I do tend to find woman who share my perspective.

Boy THAT makes society mad and I don't even flinch at their reaction! I ( sometimes "we") just point and laugh. Some people have babies out of a fear of being judged. Pure cowardice. Have the balls to live as you choose.

If you really want kids, good for you. As long as you are happy, I'm happy with you.

I knew I didn't want kids since my early teens and it only grew with age. Now I'm ready to get neutered.

Regarding marriage: I always lived by: I'm not getting married. Convince me otherwise and you are one heck of a find.

The only thing I like about this topic is everyone is answering their own questions instead of the original question.

Both my parents have been married and divorced twice. My whenever my dad hears of one of my friends or cousins getting engaged he just shakes his head. Personally I don't thinkhe was ever cut out to be married and the thought also makes me pretty worried myself.

He's opinionated, moody, often insensitive, and often times hard to live with but he's been with his current girlfriend for about 15 years now. They spend half their time together and the other half living at their time doing their own thing.

He's still paying his last wife a settlement and they've been divorced for 10 years and their son is 23. I should know because I work for him and saw she's making about the same as I do by not working or being married to him.

Wilt Chamberlin never got married or had kids. Was he a "loser" too?

I think, according to the classification above, Wilt Chamberlain(/lin? sp?) would be considered "immature." I'm not sure I agree with that or not. I think most men (really not sure whether women are similar) would like to have limitless number of desirable partners if possible, but realise that this is a fantasy. I'm not sure of Wilt the Stilt and a few rockstars are really immature, or simply have the opportunity to do what we all want to do.
