71 week, on W, ran 3000m near midnight at St Maur outside Paris, 9:34.73, just 1 sec off college best but 14 s off last year. got caught behind aggressive pack which slowed me by maybe five seconds in the first two laps, gradually moved up and outkicked one guy down the stretch. Legs felt good at 10:40, sched start but waiting for what turned out to be the fourth heat of six another hour gave me tired legs from too many strides. Not bad considering that I struggled just to run 77s for five four hundreds on Monday. Still don't know how to taper and run faster.
Started mileage buildup for New York the day after the race. Had a good negative split 14 miler, kept the pace up the next day for 17 in two runs, including a .4M hill in 2:34, then five by 800 (100j, 1:00) in 2:40,2:38,2:37,2:39,2:40, which was a breakthrough after running only over 2:40 all summer, then a .55M hill in 3:31. Ran sub 7 pace for 4 in Brussels on Saturday, quite a beautiful city built from proceeds from the pillaging of the Congo, and a pretty good 16 miler on Sunday. That was my last day in Paris.
