Ryan Hall to race 5k in July

13:45? I don't know, I would be shocked if he didn't run sub 13:30.

i think zatopek's point was that this is a particularly hard thing to predict...if his training has been going really well and he's gotten some good speed back in his legs he certainly could surprise with a 13:0x kind of run...but he could also be in just decent shape, or not be very race sharp and run around 13:30. who knows?

He ran a 10k at Stanford less than 4 weeks before his debut in London.

Glad to see he's adding some variety this summer.

how many rabbits are in the race. i'd bet it takes half a dozen to get hall under 13:20. he's no ritz. time trialing doesnt lend itself as well to the 5k as the marathon, and it seems like hall is trying to prove to asics that he's remotely as marketable as ritz. olympic trump, 5k american record, and all hall can do is scrounge NYC losses and boston top american freebies. time to retire

One thing to keep in mind is that Heusden historically isn't a particularly fast venue. Not sure why, it just isn't.

Sub-13's are rare there and the meet record is "only" 12:58. Winning times:

2009: 13:07.

2008: 13:02.

2007: 13:11.

2006: 13:06.

2005: 12:58MR

2004: 13:03.

That's an average winning time of 13:04 the last six years.

Given that, I'd say anything sub-13:20 would be a very solid performance for him.

FWIW, Hall last ran Heusden in 2006; he was 10th in 13:38, according to his USATF bio.

I was only addressing the argument that Ritz is more marketable than Hall, which is false. Moreover, you're still stupid if you believe that 9th place is appreciably better than 10th. Funnily enough, Ritz's best placing in a marathon in also Hall's worst.

This surprises me. Thanks for that. does anyone know why heusden is "slow" for a meet that time of year?

he is not on the start list. last sumer there were claims (by him i believe) he wanted to run a sub 4 mile, now this. i doubt he will ever run a track race again.

There is something beautiful about anticipation. The longer I wait to achieve a goal, get something, or go somewhere the more excited I get and the sweeter it is when I get there. Knowing this, I am learning to see struggles as part of that journey that highten my anticipation.

I had been anticipating my return to the track and to the 5k this summer and was scheduled to race a 5k in Europe at the end of the week, however, plans changed and now I am heading to Flagstaff, Arizona at the end of the week to visit Sara and my friend, Alicia Shay, get in some quality altitude training, and get some top-notch therapy. While, I don’t necessarily feel like I am in the best 5k shape of my life I thought it would be fun to get back out on the track and see what happens. Whenever I step to the line I believe anything is possible. Even though I didn’t get a chance to test myself over 5k on the track, I still did the necessary training to get back into 5k shape knowing that this will translate nicely to the marathon come October and if nothing else, I still have a whole year to anticipate hitting the track again (I haven’t competed in a track race since the summer of 2007).

I had certainly been anticipating being back in the mountains since I left Mammoth in early May so being in my hometown, Big Bear Lake, California, the last couple of days has reminded me why I love the mountains. As brutal as the winters can be, they always make me appreciate the summer and the summers up here are epic! As I finished my easy 50-minute run the other day I was telling Sara that I could feel my spirit being nourished. This is where I flourish! Runs always end before I want them to as I am able to find my zone in the quite trails winding through the mountains and pound away for hours.

As I look forward, I have a lot to anticipate, which I embrace full-heartedly knowing that in the anticipation it will make October 10, 2010 all the more meaningful and special. One of my favorite parts about running is the anticipation that comes from epic challenges and grand opportunities that await me, and all of us who run major marathons. With every run my anticipation grows until I get to pour all my enthusiasm out on race day.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

(2) Adam Goucher 13:10.00

(3) Bolota Asmeron 13:15

(4) Yours Truly...14:17

...and most likely many other Americans and Europeans Are ALL from Heusden.

The organizers just don't have the euros to bring in a the field that the Zurich, Oslo or Brussels meets can, but they sometimes get a really great runner. For example in 2004 the were able to land ElGuerrouj, who used his 3:29 at Heusden as a spring board for his Olympic double. This year the big name is Rudisha.

I really look forward to just watching the meet tomorrow night, and not competing. Too bad that Ryan Hall is not running.
