Meanwhile, is Athletics Canada Satan?
ie New carding standards and an actual admission that they are focussing on "key" events, which exclude long distance running.
Why shouldn't they? Other than Speed River, no one else in the country runs distance worth a crap. When Canadians (not based in the US) can actually break now-old records [Marathons - W2h28 (1985-so 25 years) and M2h10 (1975-so 35 years)] then "focusing" can return. Chicken and egg - run fast and the money will follow, why invest in a poor bet. Heck as good as SR is, not even a single National record has fallen to anyone in the club yet, and the CR's aren't that tough anymore, relative to what others are doing in the world. Heck the 5000 and 10000m records are downright pedestrian, even the US records are way better - and that's not saying much given what the Africans are running.
Why SR isn't a NTC is a conundrum, but perhaps it was used too much as a recruiting tool for Guelph, which AC objected to in the spirit (just conjecture on my part, but I would tend to agree, unfortunately) of fair competition for athletes in the CIS.
