Would you concede that there are pros and cons to running in a pack with faster runners? I think most of us would say that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

I'm still waiting for some confirmation that he's running at least one of these races. His declarations seem to say that he is, but I'll be shocked if he runs more than one after leaning towards calling it a season a few days ago. And I'll be pretty surprised if it's not the 1500he runs anything but the 1500 (or not at all, as his last on-the-record statement indicated). His odds are as good as anyone's of getting the #3 spot in the 1500. But it seems like a stretch that he could beat the 13:10-capable trio of guys in the 5000 (not including RUPP, and not to mention the dozen or so others who have run faster than he has).

I absolutely agree that there are huge benefits to running with faster runners in a pack. My only point is that no one really knows how he'll respond seeing that he hardly races in packs. Obviously if he can handle the mental stress of being pushed around, tripped, boxed in, etc. Then he'll perform better than when he leads from start to finish. We'll all find out this weekend.

This kind of brings that thread back about the watered down final at NCAA's. No disrespect to Michael Coe, but he just is not in the same class as Centro, Wheating or Rupp at 1500/mile.

It sucks that wheating is not 100% since ncaa's but I think we'll get a much better dose of what he's capable of if he chooses the 1500 for this week, despite being slightly off. I like that fact that he has 3 European races on the map this summer! Hope Rupp will have a couple as well.

Far as German goes, whether the 1500 or the 5K it'll be good to see him deal with a group who's is fast and can kick. Most of that NCAA field seemed pretty tired and without the Oregon crew who had been beating a good deal of those top contenders it was lacking drama in a big way. If Ulrey had been healthy we might have had a race rather than German showing that group a tough workout.

Rest assured he is not doing both: assuming he runs, he has not decided which one to run, hence declaring in both. Jenny Barringer has declared in the 5000 and Steeple, yet she is not running both. Rupp has declared in the 10000 and 5000 and he is not running both. . . .

Dummass, "time trialing" doesn't usually mean leading entire races. You make no sense. Being a good "time trialer" means being able to run fast, but not being able to race to win.....like winning an NCAA championship.....like Rupp until this year. He could run 27:33, but not WIN a race that mattered. THAT'S pretty much the definition.

I hear and see your point bro, and I too am looking forward to races where he isn't leading wire to wire and sitting waiting to unleash a devastating kick( hang and bang), but my money says that German is more the type that will grind you down with relentless pace(ground and pound), or go with a relentless pace til the end and let the chips fall where they may, this could serve him well Internationally in faster races.... I just hope that a race is in his future this weekend and he performs well no matter how he decides to race, "hang and bang" or "Ground and pound" to use a lil MMA reference :) nice chatting wit ya...

Yea Centro sure didn't look tired, did he? lmao... And Chris Derrick was someone Rupp was nervous about in the 5000m with his PR of 13:29 and Mead with his 13:28. Can't get more stacked then that 5000m can you? But at least that 5000m field wasn't tired, they were all ready to run 13:15! GrassHopper you need more knowledge my son...

He had a "severe" achilles injury. Not a severed achilles. I hope you can't sever your achilles while running. And if you can, I don't think you'd ever run again.
