Which is run first? I'd imagine he'd only want to compete in one of them. Maybe he's hoping to qualify in the 1500 and if he for some reason has a disaster in the rounds run the 5K instead?
the 5k is before the 1500. i would geuss that he is going for that AJR record in that then hopefully place in the 1500. lets be honest, fernandez is a really talented runner but it is still going to be tough for him to place top 3. he just isn't as developed as some of the other guys yet, give him 2-3 years though and he will be viaing for hopefully olympic and world medals. just because i say he isn't as advanced yet, doesn't mean that i will be surprised if he makes the team in the 1500 or 5k, yes or 5k. i will be there watching it and i will tell you i will definetely be rooting for him, he is one of the best american talents i have seen and has one of the best attitudes towards the sport, go german.
How does he go, from a week ago saying that he's hanging it up until xc, to this?
The fact that people are declared for two events does that mean that they will do two events.
No, they can scratch the second one but I dont think they can scratch the first one and do the second one. that is why barringer didnt enter the 1500 too most likely.
He was entered in both the senior and junior meets but has declared for the senior.
the real question is how far behind/ how much does "Harmon" get his a** kicked by Rupp in the 5000 if they both run it??
what are the chances rupp wins both 5 and 10? Considering there looks to be only one 5k the day after the 10, i would say pretty good.
Your phonetic spelling sucks.

Alberto said Galen will only run the 5k if something were to go wrong in the 10k. So, don't expect Rupp to be in that race.
The American Junior record in the 1500 is 3:36.1. The guy who ran it was pretty good, you may have heard of him - Jim Ryun.
Incredible that Ryun's junior records at 800, 1500 and mile have held up since 1966. Long shot for Fernandez to drop from 3:39.00 to sub-3:36.1, especially when he will need to run heats. I think he could do it, but I think he'd need an all-finals format.
It was terribly hot and humid in Arkansas when he ran 3:39.00. On a cooler, less humid day, in a race he doesn't have to lead the whole way... 3:36.xx is there for the takin'.
Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid to upper 70's. Sounds perfect for distance runners - as far as effin' Eugene in June
...Effin Eugene...
His mile from indoor converts to 3:37.59, doesn't seem like that big a jump to me.
I don't see any reason Fernandez couldn't run 3:36 except for fatigue. Isn't it strange to think last year around this time his coach was talking about how he lacked speed? The kid, had to chosen to focus on it rather than the 2M, probably could've broken four in high school, is undefeated in the 1500 / mile at the NCAA ranks (correct me if that's wrong) and went wire-to-wire in 3:39 after heats in some hot conditions in Arkansas. I'd have to imagine 3:36 is well within his range.
That said, I really hope he focuses on the 5000m. While he probably wouldn't make the team in either, on the off chance that he did, the 1500m heats would be pretty tough to get out of at WCs. I think he'd have a better shot at making the final in the 5000m, and if nothing else, it gives him an opportunity (or several) at running a fast 5000m time, something he hasn't done yet to his full potential. I have to think he is faster than Derrick (13:29) and Ritzenhein (13:27) at this point in their careers. I hope he goes sub 13:20.
As for the 1500m team, I think Webb will make it, one of Manzano / Lomong (if Manzano shows up, he goes, if not, it's Lomong's) and someone like Will Leer for the fourth spot.
What about Bernard Lagat? He is listed in the 800 and not the 1500 or 5K....
Lagat has said he wants to improve his 800m time, so that explains the entry in the 800m. He is listed as "open" for the 5k which I assume means his entry is still available but not definite. He decided awhile ago to skip the 1500m and save that for Worlds.
Lagat is an auto qualifier for Worlds in both the 1500m and 5K from his wins in 2007
