Why not? You are going to live, and you are going to die. If you have the ability to run, use it while you can. You have a lifetime to make money working a real job with real hours. There is no point in being unhappy because you have a boss who doesn't understand your goals in life.

if the guy wants to quit and find a job that lets him run on his own schedule, that's fine.
but i'm saying in the real world, many bosses don't and shouldn't give a shit if you're running 100+ miles per week. They hired you to do a job. I'm not saying bosses should be hounding people all the time, but i also don't think people who have special hobbies should get any preferential treatment.
the main point is that it's best to keep a hobby like running a little bit on the down low. Don't be talking about how you run twice a day and are so tired/stressed. this will absolutely negatively impact your superiors' opinion of you as a professional.
this is common sense, and something I have been told specifically by a running buddy who made his way up to the executive levels in a large fortune 500 company.
