I think John has a new strong front runner on the girls team, that being Jenny Schauhousser. He seems to always do good with his front runners such as Deshane, Wiszowaty, Heymann(who looks to be a competitor for the Regional win). It should be fun to watch his team, both women and men.
Hope he does a good job like he has done in the past for such a young coach in the field.

Plattsburgh appears to be off to a good start. I still think they are in the third tier of the region. Cortland, Suny G and TCNJ (if Kopniki is healthy/ in shape) should go one, two, three. NYU and St. Lawrence are fighting to prove the Atlantic region deserves five at large bids. And than, Plattsburgh, Ithaca, RIT, and U of R etc. will race amongst themselves for 6th, maybe 5th if NYU doesn't restock as predicted or St. Lawrence implodes.
I know Plattsburgh was 9 points behind St. Lawrence this past weekend but that is a wider margin considering it was a duel meet. Also, whether he is overrated or underrated, smart money is on Dan Ramsey running better as the season progresses. With that said, Allison and Sico could be on the good side of the top fifty at regionals, which combined with a low number from Heymann, is a respectable foundation. (I predicted Heymann to be in the top 10 on the deceased Atlantic region thread a month ago, or so.)
Lee Berube should be fine. Peek physical condition on the track and an August cross country race are not created equal. Did anyone expect him to break Ted Turner's school records on his first time out? He barely knows his way to the Geneseo dining hall let alone how to race an 8k. Cut him a break. His older brother is more interesting to me at this point. If he can sustain his good early season performances into November this year that is a huge bonus for the Blue Knights.
Someone who knows MikeJones999 should let him know about the resurrection of the Atlantic region thread. We need him to get everyone riled up again. I also look forward to his album and movie on the way.
looks about right...a little surprised NYU is above SLU on the mens side...a little surprised Brockport is tied with SLU on the womens side (I figured SLU would be higher)
Why would you be suprised by either of these. SLU ran decent in an early season 5k against Plattsburgh, with a much different group than they had last year. Until SLU does something more, they look fine in 5th.
For Brockport and SLU on the women's side, both raced this past weekend, but it looks like Brockport didn't run any of their top girls and SLU ran all but 1, so it's pretty hard to compare at this point. Also, the course at Plattsburgh is much faster than the one Buffalo State uses. I honestly think they match up pretty well and it will be a good race in a few weeks at the Pre-Regional.
The one suprise on there is that RIT's men got a vote. Based on what the preview said, they will have a completely new team this fall (no 2008 roster to check out yet either).

Have you ever run the 5k at Plattsburgh? Compare women's times. Geneseo in 2006 stuck 5 girls under 19 min, a year they got 11th in the nation if I remember correctly??? Last year Plattsburgh ran 2 under 19 min as a team that 2nd in the nation, and Plattsburgh's course is faster? I don't think so. It is deceivingly slow. Pavlus has run 17:10 or so in a track 5k and ran 18:48= not fast.
Donahoe ran 15:41 in an all out effort last fall at Plattsburgh and got 4th in the NCAA's. I don't think it is a very fast course...
SLU women are the 5th best team in the region

well now since Buff State has a new course this year I do not think you can compare them at all, why don't people just wait and see what happens head to head at the end of they year and leave the opinions alone

Are you kidding me? Do you know anything about the region, at all? NYU despite all of their losses, are the defending national champions, in case you weren't aware. Arguably, SLU lost more critical pieces to their team than NYU did (Donahue, Ostler, and even Eli Howard). You're obviously quite biased towards SLU, and, admittedly, I'm biased against - but look at things from an objective standpoint. There is no rationale, at all, to rank them above NYU in the region. IF they would've put 5 guys in front of Mike Heymann, they might've deserved it. But (and I'm not sure you saw the results), that wasn't the case. Terrance Fox and this Kenyan kid appear to be decent runners and in good shape right now, but the rest of the team looks either to be in poor shape or had an off day. Proving my point, Ramsey had a poor showing, as I predict he will for the rest of the season...
Regardless, look for Jesse Schneider to lead his team in the coming months to a well-deserved placing over SLU as the season progresses. Again, I'm not specifically hating on SLU, I just don't think that they have the talent to make it into that upper-tier in the region, and from the way people on this thread post, it seems as if SLU could take down Cortland tomorrow, they just haven't put it together yet.

Heymann beat Jesse Schneider in track a few times and Mike seems to actually be a better XC runner than he is a track runner, so I don't know what you are saying about SLU putting 5 in front of Heymann to get voted ahead of NYU. NYU might not even have one in front of Heymann. I think they are pretty evenly matched. My money is on Kiplagat getting much better as the season goes on, same with Ramsey.

I think he was saying that if SLU had put their top 5 in front of Heymann, then SLU would deserve to be ranked higher than NYU. I believe it was also implied that there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of that happening. Mike "The Tully Hammer" Heymann is following in Matt Deshane's footsteps. You'll be seeing his name near the top of the results page for a couple more years to come.

Remember - these early season rankings don't mean much in November. I think Cortland is a sure thing, and Geneseo looks strong. You have to believe that NYU and TCNJ will perform at regionals, just based off of past results. Are there any other surprises? Any reports from UofR, Ithaca, or RIT?

I can imagine all 3 of the scenarios happening quite easily. My opinion is pretty accurately reflected on the AR coaches poll (tied for 4th in SUNYAC, tied for 10th in the region). They ain't a lock for anything.
Props to Ramsey for posting and defending himself. You guys are all pretty cowardly. Calling him out for no reason. As a Sophomore "I finished up like a hero at Nationals" Yeah that 32:16 really showed I was a good runner (I hope you can pick up on my sarcasm). After the beating that Dan handed me at ECACs last spring over the last lap, I have the utmost respect for him as a competitor. Give the season some time. Erik pulled off 5th last year at Nationals after a season that most claimed would leave him burnt out.
Ithaca had a solid alumni run. They had four guys finish together running easy in a little over 16 on their ridiculously hard course.
Who are you to call us cowards? What do you guys think you're tough just because you posted your names. To me, it shows you are mentally weak and that you let people who you dont even know get in your head, so you defend yourself and post your name thinking people will respect it but really no one cares. Maybe you should be focusing on a national championship instead of what random people think. Look at all the NYU/Hany bashing that went on last year. Did they come on hear and whine about it? NO THEY WENT OUT AND WON AN EFFING CHAMPIONSHIP.
That kid was simply giving his opinion on Ramsey and the SLU team without being condescending at all. Ramsey took it personally and had to cry about it, leaving him open to ridicule. Because of your post, I'm going to be rooting against Cortland all season Ramsey and hope you fail miserably at nats.
BTW has anyone else noticed that half the Cortland team looks like they were created in a test tube.
